Setapp Mac vs Power User: Are 3 Extra Macs Worth $8/Month?
The short answer
Setapp Power User is a capacity upgrade, not an automatic quality upgrade. The current pricing page shows Mac at $14.99/month plus tax for one Mac, while Power User is $22.99/month for up to four Macs and four iOS devices. The Membership page confirms the same multi-app plan structure. That is an $8 monthly difference, or $96 over 12 months before tax.

Start with active devices
If one Mac does nearly all your work, the Mac plan already matches the job. Paying for Power User would buy extra Mac slots that may never be used. If you have one Mac and several iPhones or iPads, compare Mac+iOS first: it is currently $18.99/month and keeps the one-Mac limit while adding up to four iOS devices.
The $96 yearly premium needs a real job
Ask what the second or third Mac would otherwise require. Setapp includes apps that can also be purchased directly. CleanShot, Ulysses, Craft and CleanMyMac all have standalone routes. If another Mac would otherwise need several of those tools separately, multi-Mac access can remove duplicate spending. If the second Mac is rarely used, the slot is mostly theoretical.
AI credits are secondary
The current pricing page shows 1,000 AI credits on Mac and 2,000 on Power User. That matters only if eligible AI tools are part of your routine and the lower pool is genuinely insufficient.
Trial the actual app stack
Setapp offers a seven-day trial; the selected/default plan becomes paid after the trial unless changed or canceled. Test two or three apps you would otherwise buy, on the devices you actually use. This is a proposed buyer test, not a Toolnavia productivity benchmark.
Do not confuse device slots with family accounts
Setapp distinguishes Membership from single-app purchasing, and device coverage depends on plan. More device slots do not automatically mean separate accounts for different people.
Buying rule
Choose Mac for one active Mac. Compare Mac+iOS when mobile Apple devices are the only expansion. Choose Power User when multiple Macs are genuinely active and the $8 monthly premium replaces enough standalone software cost or recurring device friction to matter. Verify live prices, taxes, device limits, AI credits and catalog before paying.
