TOOLNAVIA / BUYING GUIDE

ProWritingAid Premium: $30 Monthly, $120 Yearly or $399 Lifetime?

The short answer

ProWritingAid Premium is a stronger fit for long-form English writers who repeatedly hit the Free plan's editing limits, not for someone who only needs an occasional grammar check. The current Premium price is $30 monthly, $120 yearly, or $399 lifetime. The real decision is whether unlimited line-editing reports and long-form workflow support justify paying before Story Credits or Premium Pro enter the picture.

This is an official-document buying analysis, not a Toolnavia accuracy, manuscript-quality, or integration test.

Free is useful, but its editing ceiling arrives quickly

The Free plan currently limits each editing session to 500 words at a time and allows two runs per line-editing report per day, plus 10 Rephrases and 3 Sparks daily. That can be enough to sample the workflow on short passages. Premium removes the line-report and Rephrase caps, adds 25+ reports, custom style controls, author comparison, unlimited document storage, one Chapter Critique per day, five Sparks, and nine Creative Nudges per day.

"Unlimited" still needs context. ProWritingAid says paid plans have no overall word limit, but several tools have their own useful ranges: Sparks handles highlighted text up to 2,500 characters, Thesaurus and a plagiarism credit up to 2,000 words, Chapter Critique up to 4,000 words, and whole-manuscript analyses work best from about 6,000 to 300,000 words. Split a large draft into chapters instead of assuming every report should process an entire book at once.

Four Premium benefits have different boundaries

**Run line-editing reports repeatedly.** Premium can rerun grammar, style, readability, repetition and other reports without the Free plan's daily report-run ceiling. This is useful during several revision passes, but suggestions remain editorial prompts rather than proof that a sentence is objectively better. Keep the original and review changes in context.

**Tune suggestions to your manuscript.** A custom style guide, custom dictionary and customizable suggestions help preserve names, terminology and intentional dialogue choices. That matters more in a novel or long project than generic correction counts. ProWritingAid currently works in English, with several English variants; it is not a multilingual replacement for every writing tool.

**Edit where you already write.** Current integrations include Word, Scrivener, Google Docs and many desktop/web writing environments. Desktop Everywhere supports Windows and Mac. The integration help says Linux, Android and iOS are not currently supported by native integrations, although the Web Editor works in a browser. Check your actual writing app before buying.

**Add story-level analysis only when you need it.** Premium includes one Chapter Critique per day, but whole-manuscript tools use separate Story Credits. Premium receives up to a 40% Story Credit discount; Premium Pro raises daily critique/Sparks limits, adds workshops/community features, and can discount Story Credits more deeply. Do not treat Premium Pro or Story Credits as automatically included in the base Premium price.

$120 yearly versus $399 lifetime

Premium costs $30 month-to-month, $120 per year, or $399 lifetime. Twelve unchanged monthly payments would total $360, so monthly is mainly the flexibility option. Three unchanged annual payments total $360, still $39 below today's lifetime price; four unchanged annual payments total $480, $81 above lifetime. That makes the fourth annual payment the first simple same-price comparison point—not a guaranteed break-even, because pricing, product fit and your writing needs can change.

Annual and lifetime purchases have a three-day refund-request window. Monthly purchases are nonrefundable. Canceling auto-renew is not itself a refund request, and a canceled paid subscription remains usable through the current billing period. Lifetime is a one-time payment rather than an auto-renewing subscription.

For context, Grammarly Pro is currently $30 monthly or $144 annually and focuses on broad writing assistance; Hemingway Editor Plus is $10 monthly or $100 annually with AI sentence credits; AutoCrit Pro focuses on manuscript and genre analysis. Those are workflow comparisons, not accuracy rankings.

Suggested rehearsal: one chapter, three passes

Use a copy of a chapter rather than your only manuscript. Run the Free plan on a short section first, noting which report limits actually interrupt your editing. If Premium is activated, repeat three deliberate passes: a line-editing report, a style/terminology pass using the custom dictionary, and a Chapter Critique on a chapter within the documented range. Save before-and-after copies.

Then open the same project in the writing environment you actually use and confirm that the integration or Web Editor fits your workflow. These are proposed acceptance checks, not results Toolnavia has measured.

Buy for repeated long-form editing, not for a feature count

Stay on Free when 500-word sessions and limited report runs are enough. Choose Premium when repeated reports, long-form organization and custom editing rules solve a real recurring problem. Choose Premium Pro only if its much higher story-tool limits and community features are actually needed; budget Story Credits separately.
