Verdict

Kit Creator is unusual because the Free plan already supports up to 10,000 subscribers and unlimited email broadcasts. The current paid Creator plan for 1,000 subscribers is $39/month, or $390/year on the annual view. Paying is therefore not mainly about sending more newsletters. The real upgrade is unlimited Visual Automations, Email Sequences, RSS campaigns, Kit MCP, paid apps, removing Kit branding, SMS, paid recommendations, and 24/7 email/chat support.

Free is a real operating plan

Kit Free costs $0 while the account stays under 10,000 subscribers. It includes unlimited landing pages and forms, unlimited email broadcasts, tagging and segmentation, digital products and subscriptions, broadcast A/B tests, Creator Network recommendations, and API access.

If your workflow is mainly newsletters, forms, landing pages, and basic audience organization, Free can remain useful for a long time. The subscriber ceiling is not a send-volume ceiling.

Once Free passes 10,000 subscribers, Kit says a paid plan is required to keep sending. That is different from a paid Creator account, where billing is driven by the active confirmed subscriber tier.

What Creator actually unlocks

**Visual Automations and Email Sequences.** Creator unlocks unlimited automation flows and unlimited sequences. These are the clearest reasons to pay when onboarding, lead nurturing, launches, or evergreen journeys need to run without manual broadcasts.

**Rules, RSS campaigns, Kit MCP, and paid apps.** Creator adds automation rules, RSS campaigns, Kit MCP, and paid Kit App Store integrations. The value is workflow depth, not more broadcast capacity.

**Branding, SMS, polls, and paid recommendations.** Current pricing also includes removal of Kit branding, SMS marketing, subscriber polls, and earning from Paid Recommendations. Basic Creator Network recommendations already exist on Free, so do not upgrade solely because you want recommendation features at all.

**24/7 email and chat support.** Free support requests are answered within 24 hours, while Creator currently lists 24/7 email and chat support. That can matter when automations or paid creator workflows are business-critical.

$39 monthly or $390 yearly

Kit Help uses $39/month as the current Creator price for up to 1,000 subscribers. The live annual pricing page shows $390 billed yearly and labels it about $33/month. Mathematically, $390 divided by 12 is $32.50/month, so use $390/year as the clearer invoice reference and treat the $33 figure as rounded display.

Twelve unchanged monthly payments total $468. The current annual total therefore saves $78, about 16.7%, if you remain on the same 1,000-subscriber tier for the year.

Kit also offers a 14-day paid-plan trial with no credit card required. Use that period to build the actual automation or sequence that Free cannot run before committing to annual billing.

Subscriber growth can raise a paid bill automatically

Creator pricing scales with active confirmed subscribers. If a paid account crosses its subscriber-tier limit, Kit automatically upgrades it to the next tier so sending can continue. Upgrades are prorated: monthly plans settle the prorated difference on the next bill, while annual plans can charge the prorated difference immediately.

Downgrades work differently. The newest Billing Help says that after list cleanup, an eligible user can select “Switch to a lower tier” in Account & Billing and the lower tier takes effect on the next billing date if the subscriber count still qualifies.

Kit's live pricing FAQ still contains older wording saying the team has to manually downgrade plans. Because the updated Billing Help is newer and gives self-service steps, this guide follows the Billing Help while flagging the stale FAQ. Do not assume a paid tier falls automatically just because the list shrinks.

Canceling, Free downgrade, and refunds are separate

A paid user under 10,000 subscribers can move back to Free. Paid features remain until the paid period ends; after the downgrade, saved automations and sequences stay in the account but stop running until the account is paid again.

Kit's Terms say subscriptions auto-renew unless canceled before renewal and that canceling mid-period normally does not refund fees already paid. Current Billing Help, however, states a 30-day refund policy for eligible paid amounts, while the pricing FAQ describes refunds within the first 30 days after account signup. Because these current official pages are not phrased identically, contact Billing before assuming a particular renewal payment is refundable.

For market context, Moosend Pro 500 is currently $9/month with unlimited campaigns. MailerLite Comfort starts at $12/month and the 500 tier includes 5,000 monthly sends. AWeber Lite 500 is $15/month or $150/year with 5,000 sends. systeme.io Startup is $17/month or $170/year and includes broader funnel/course tools. GetResponse Starter is currently $19/month for 1,000 contacts, while HubSpot Marketing Hub Starter has a regular $20/month/seat reference. These are price-and-scope comparisons, not deliverability rankings.

Next step

Stay on Free while 10,000 subscribers, unlimited broadcasts, and its basic workflow are enough. Choose Creator when automation, sequences, branding removal, paid apps, RSS, SMS, or support solve a recurring problem. Start monthly if list growth is uncertain; move to $390 annual billing only after the workflow and subscriber tier are stable.

Kit's public affiliate program currently pays 50% of referred paid-customer payments for the first 12 months. Affiliates who qualify for Bronze, Silver, or Gold can then earn 10%, 15%, or 20% recurring commission beyond 12 months. Toolnavia approval and a tracking link are unverified, so affiliate tracking remains disabled.
