Verdict
HubSpot Marketing Hub Starter is easiest to budget from its regular catalog price, not the temporary promo banners. The current Product & Services Catalog lists Starter at $20/month per seat with 1,000 marketing contacts included. HubSpot is also running limited new-customer Starter promotions that currently appear as $7 or $10 per seat on different official pages, so the live checkout controls the promotional price.
Free versus Starter
HubSpot's current Marketing pricing page lists Free at $0/month for up to two users with no credit card. Free includes basic tools for generating and emailing leads, forms, and live chat.
Starter removes more branding and adds paid marketing controls such as calls-to-action, expanded audience/segment capabilities, and simple automation. Current detailed limits show Starter can use one simple workflow per form with up to 10 actions. It is not the same automation tier as Marketing Hub Professional.
The regular Starter catalog price includes one Core Seat and 1,000 marketing contacts, while the current pricing page also includes 500 HubSpot Credits. That makes Starter useful for a small marketing operation, but the base seat price is not the whole future bill.
The 1,000-contact boundary can raise the bill mid-term
Only contacts marked as marketing contacts count toward the Marketing Hub contact tier. Contacts kept as non-marketing contacts do not affect the marketing-contact charge, subject to HubSpot's overall account limits.
The current Product & Services Catalog includes the first 1,000 marketing contacts in Starter. It then lists blended monthly contact pricing at $50 per 1,000 for the 1,001–3,000 range, $45 per 1,000 for 3,001–5,000, and $40 per 1,000 above 5,000.
If you exceed the purchased marketing-contact tier, HubSpot can upgrade the tier and bill immediately. If the contact count later drops, the billing tier does not automatically fall during the current term. Contact-tier downgrades take effect at renewal.
Starter also currently includes 500 HubSpot Credits. Administrators can monitor credit usage alongside contacts and seats, and additional credits can add cost. If AI agents or other credit-consuming features become a major workflow, budget those separately instead of treating the seat fee as unlimited AI usage.
Current $7 and $10 Starter promos are not the regular base
HubSpot's current pricing page advertises up to 65% off Starter for new customers and currently displays a $7/month/seat promotional starting price against the $20 regular level. A separate current Marketing Hub product page shows a $10/month Starter promotional price against $20.
Because both are current official limited-time surfaces, this article does not register either promo as the permanent product price. Eligibility, billing period, and the exact offer must be confirmed in the buyer's live order.
The legal catalog's $20/month/seat regular base is therefore the cleaner reference for long-term planning.
Commitment, cancellation, and refund
HubSpot's current Customer Terms say the subscription term is defined by the Order and normally auto-renews unless otherwise specified. Except for specific contractual exceptions, subscriptions cannot be canceled before the current term ends, and prepaid or unused subscription fees are not refunded.
Current HubSpot Help says turning off auto-renewal makes cancellation effective at the end of the commitment term rather than immediately. Mid-contract cancellation is not permitted. After the paid subscription ends, the account can downgrade to HubSpot's Free tools.
The Starter pricing UI offers monthly-commitment and annual options, so check the commitment you select. A monthly billing display should not be confused with a right to exit an annual commitment early.
Alternatives
GetResponse Starter currently costs $19 monthly or $15.58/month equivalent annually for a 1,000-contact base and one custom automation workflow. Mailchimp Standard currently starts at $20/month for 500 contacts, with a current promotional surface showing $17/month for 12 months and contact/send overages.
Brevo has a $0 Free marketing plan with up to 300 emails/day, while Standard adds unlimited multi-step automation. Kit currently offers Free for up to 10,000 subscribers and Creator at $33/month for 1,000 subscribers, billed $390 yearly. These are pricing-and-scope references, not deliverability or conversion rankings.
Next step
Start with Free if the basic lead, email, form, and chat tools solve the job. Choose Starter when the paid controls and one simple workflow per form are useful—and model the contact count before buying. Use $20/seat as the regular planning reference, then apply any live new-customer promotion only after verifying the checkout.
