Verdict
GetResponse Starter fits businesses that mainly need newsletters, landing pages, forms, and one custom automation workflow. Marketer is the paid step for unlimited automation, advanced segmentation, and ecommerce recovery tools. At the current 1,000-contact annual view, Starter is $15.58/month equivalent and Marketer is $48.38/month equivalent—a displayed $32.80/month gap before tax or list-size overage.
What Starter already covers
Starter includes unlimited monthly email sends, landing pages, signup forms and popups, a welcome series, AI content tools, and one custom automation workflow. The monthly option is $19; the yearly display is $15.58/month equivalent.
That one workflow can be enough for a simple welcome or lead-nurture path. GetResponse also offers a 14-day free trial with no card required, so build the actual workflow before committing to annual billing.
What Marketer adds
**Unlimited automation workflows.** Marketer removes Starter's one-workflow limit, useful for separate onboarding, re-engagement, post-purchase, and product journeys.
**Advanced segmentation.** Marketer adds richer behavioral and audience segmentation. This improves control, not a guaranteed conversion result.
**Ecommerce tools.** Current Marketer features include abandoned-cart recovery, sales funnels, promo codes, revenue reporting, and unlimited web push.
**More users.** Current Help/pricing materials place multi-user access up to five users in Marketer. If one person runs the account, unused seats alone are not a reason to upgrade.
Annual billing does not freeze contact costs
Standard plans scale by list size, including 1,000, 2,500, 5,000, 10,000, 25,000, 50,000, and 100,000 contacts. Current plans include unlimited sends; pricing is driven by contact/list size rather than monthly send volume.
If the account exceeds the purchased contact tier through signups, integrations, API imports, or other qualifying additions, GetResponse can charge a List Extension Fee equal to the difference to the tier that fits the actual list size. This fee is charged monthly even on an annual subscription.
Contacts stored across separate lists can be counted separately, including the same email address appearing in multiple lists. Above 100,000 contacts, current terms add $4 for every started block of 1,000 contacts beyond the maximum standard tier.
So $48.38/month equivalent paid annually is not an all-inclusive cap on future charges.
Paid periods are nonrefundable
GetResponse describes paid service as pay-as-you-go. Monthly plans renew every 30 days and annual plans every 360 days. Once a new billing period has been charged, that amount is not refunded even if the account is canceled immediately afterward.
Outstanding payments or an active list-size overage can also block self-service cancellation until related charges are settled.
Use the 14-day no-card trial for evaluation; after purchasing annual Marketer, monitor list size and treat the charged term as nonrefundable.

Next step
Build one real workflow in the trial. If one custom automation is enough, Starter is simpler. If you need several journeys, advanced segmentation, abandoned-cart recovery, or sales funnels, Marketer has a concrete reason to exist.
