Verdict

Close CRM Essentials currently costs $49 per user per month on monthly billing or $35 per user per month when billed annually. At those displayed rates, one seat costs $588 across 12 unchanged monthly payments versus $420 on the annual plan—a nominal $168 yearly saving. The catch is that the seat price is not the whole bill: calling, SMS, phone numbers, and some AI usage are billed separately, while Essentials itself does not include automated Workflows.

What Essentials actually includes

Essentials is the first team-oriented Close tier. It includes unlimited contacts and leads, team collaboration, built-in forms, email, calling and SMS access, a centralized inbox and task list, and 1,000 included AI credits per user each month. Those credits are pooled at the account level, with Essentials capped at 10,000 included credits per month. They reset monthly and do not roll over.

“Unlimited contacts and leads” removes one common CRM billing meter, but it does not make communication or AI usage unlimited.

What still costs extra

**Calling and phone numbers are usage-based.** Close says most outbound calls are around $0.02 per minute and phone numbers start at about $1 per month. Actual rates vary by destination and number type.

**SMS and MMS are usage-based.** Close bills SMS according to current carrier/Twilio pricing and message units. Carrier registration or messaging fees can also apply.

**Some AI features consume credits.** Essentials includes 1,000 AI credits per user per month, up to 10,000 for the account. Credit-based features such as Chloe Voice Agents, enrichment, and Auto Updates can consume that balance. Extra AI credit subscriptions currently start at $20/month for 1,200 credits.

**Chloe Voice Agent calls can incur two meters.** Voice Agent activity can use AI credits and standard telephony charges at the same time. Do not budget AI calls from the seat price alone.

$35 annual-equivalent versus $49 monthly

The annual plan is the cheaper static one-year choice if you know the team will keep Close. At the current displayed prices, monthly billing is $49 × 12 = $588 per seat/year, while annual billing is $35 × 12 = $420 per seat/year. The nominal difference is $168 per seat/year. For five seats, that becomes $2,940 under 12 monthly payments versus $2,100 on annual billing, a nominal $840 difference before telephony, SMS, phone numbers, AI top-ups, tax, or other usage.

The monthly plan costs more but preserves flexibility. Close says monthly subscriptions can be upgraded, downgraded, or canceled anytime. Annual plans are discounted, but downgrades or cancellations take effect at the end of the billing term.

Essentials does not include Workflows

This is the main upgrade boundary. Essentials includes built-in email, calling, and SMS, but automated Workflows are not included. Current Growth pricing is $109 per user per month monthly or $99 per user per month on annual billing. Growth adds automated Workflows, Chloe in Workflows, the power dialer, custom activities, and bulk email.

On annual-equivalent pricing, Growth is $64 per user per month more than Essentials, or a nominal $768 more per seat over 12 months. Upgrade when automation or power-dialer workflows replace recurring manual work—not just because the team has more contacts, since Essentials already lists unlimited contacts and leads.

Trial, guarantee, cancellation, and data retention

Close currently offers a 14-day trial with no credit card. Trial accounts include calling and AI credits so you can test real communication and AI workflows before paying. The pricing page also advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee after purchase.

When you cancel, Close says the account remains active through the current monthly or annual billing period. After cancellation or deactivation, lead data is purged after 91 days by default. Export records and port any phone numbers you want to keep before that window closes.

Market context and next step

Pipedrive Growth currently costs $39 per seat per month when billed annually, or $468 per seat/year, and focuses on email sync, automations, nurturing sequences, scheduling, and forecasting. Freshsales Suite Growth is $9 per user per month billed annually with 500 marketing contacts, while additional marketing contacts and some AI features are separate add-ons.

HubSpot Sales Hub Starter currently shows a limited new-customer annual promotion starting at $7 per seat per month against a standard $20 reference, while Zoho CRM Standard is $14 per user per month annually or $20 monthly. These are pricing-and-scope comparisons, not CRM performance rankings.

Use the 14-day trial with a realistic team size. Make representative calls, send SMS, use AI credits, and confirm whether the lack of Workflows creates repeated manual work. Choose annual Essentials only after the seat count and usage-based communication costs fit the budget.
