Verdict
beehiiv Lite is now the first paid step under beehiiv's October 2026 plan system. New customers see Free, Lite, Pro, and Enterprise instead of the older Launch, Scale, Max, and Enterprise names. The current Lite price for 1,000 subscribers is $59/month, or $49/month when billed annually. Free remains generous at $0 for up to 2,500 subscribers with unlimited email sends.
The reason to pay for Lite is not send volume. It is the growth and monetization stack: automations, paid subscriptions with 0% beehiiv platform fees, Ad Network access, Recommendations, digital products, community, polls, A/B testing, and broader MCP/Agent capabilities.
What changed on October 1
beehiiv officially mapped Launch to Free, Scale to Lite, and Max to Pro on October 1, 2026. New pricing took effect for new customers immediately; existing customers move to the new structure on their first renewal on or after November 1.
The updated Help Center now defines four current plan types: Free, Lite, Pro, and Enterprise. Pricing is also tied to a subscriber tier based on active subscribers across the account.
Some official pricing surfaces still expose older Launch/Scale/Max labels and an older Scale annual display. Because newer October 2026 pages consistently use Free/Lite/Pro and publish the new Lite pricing, this guide treats the October announcement and updated Help as the current authority.
Free versus Lite
Free currently supports up to 2,500 subscribers and unlimited sends. It also includes core newsletter, website, podcast, analytics, recommendation-network, custom-domain, API, and read-access tools.
Lite keeps unlimited sends but raises the maximum supported subscriber range to 100,000 and adds the paid growth/monetization layer. Current beehiiv materials list paid subscriptions with a 0% platform fee, Ad Network and recommendation monetization, automations, digital products, community, polls, A/B testing, and write access for beehiiv MCP/Agent.
That makes the purchase gate straightforward: if you only need publishing and unlimited newsletters below 2,500 subscribers, stay on Free. If monetization and automated growth workflows are central, Lite has a concrete purpose.
$59 monthly or $49/month billed annually
For 1,000 subscribers, beehiiv's current October 2026 materials list Lite at $59/month, or $49/month when billed annually. At the annual equivalent, 12 × $49 is $588 for a full year. Twelve unchanged monthly payments would total $708, so the current annual difference is $120 before tax or future pricing changes.
Subscriber count still matters. beehiiv's updated Help says plan price depends on the active-subscriber tier. When changing plans or subscriber tiers, the Billing & Plan screen shows the customized monthly or annual price for the selected count.
Do not assume the $59 or $49 reference remains the same after list growth. Recheck the live subscriber tier before paying.
Downgrades and cancellation change feature behavior
The updated October Help says plan changes and lower subscriber tiers are managed from Billing & Plan. A downgrade begins at the next billing cycle. If the account is over the chosen lower subscriber tier, inactive subscribers need to be removed before the lower tier can apply cleanly.
Downgrading to Free keeps content in the account, but paid functions change. Automations are turned off after in-flight subscribers finish, webhooks and some redirects disable, and some history becomes limited. Saved automations remain available to reactivate after upgrading again.
beehiiv's Terms say cancellation leaves the paid service active until the end of the current term and does not create a prorated refund for unused time. Current refund Help is stricter: sales are generally final and explicitly excludes refunds for non-use, failure to cancel, missing features, or mistaken purchases. A 14-day trial is therefore the safer evaluation window.

Next step
Stay on beehiiv Free if 2,500 subscribers and unlimited sends already solve the publishing job. Choose Lite when the Ad Network, paid subscriptions, automations, recommendations, digital products, community, or other growth tools create recurring value. Verify the live subscriber tier and annual total before paying because beehiiv has just changed its pricing system.
