Verdict
AVG Ultimate is unusually attractive in the first year because the current US store prices both Ultimate and Internet Security at $59.88 for 10 devices. The real decision appears at renewal: Internet Security currently renews at $99.99/year, while Ultimate renews at $149.99/year. In other words, Ultimate costs nothing extra in the first year but carries a current $50/year renewal premium for TuneUp, Secure VPN, AntiTrack, and the bundle's platform-specific extras.
Same first-year price, different long-term commitment
The current AVG store shows Internet Security and Ultimate side by side at the same $59.88 first-year price for 10 devices. The store also publishes the current renewal amounts: $99.99/year for Internet Security and $149.99/year for Ultimate. That makes the first-year incremental cost $0 and the currently published annual renewal difference $50.
Do not treat that $50 as permanent. AVG says discounted first periods can differ from later periods and sends a billing reminder before the anniversary with the next fee. Save the order confirmation and use the account reminder as the final source for the next charge.
What the extra $50 currently buys
**AVG Secure VPN.** The Ultimate bundle includes Secure VPN. AVG's current standalone store lists the 10-device VPN at $54.99 for the first year and a $99.99/year renewal, so a user who would otherwise buy that VPN separately has a clear reason to examine Ultimate. The standalone license and bundle entitlement should still be checked for the exact platforms you use.
**AVG TuneUp.** Ultimate also includes TuneUp. The current standalone 10-device TuneUp offer is $34.68 for the first year and shows a $79.99/year renewal. If cleanup and maintenance tools are genuinely useful to you, the current $50 Ultimate renewal premium can be lower than keeping TuneUp separately.
**AVG AntiTrack.** Ultimate adds AntiTrack on supported desktop platforms. AVG's current store lists AntiTrack at $54.99/year. That is close to the entire current $50 annual difference between Internet Security and Ultimate, but the bundle's platform availability matters before calling it equivalent value.
**Internet Security remains the protection layer.** Ultimate includes Internet Security rather than replacing it with a different antivirus engine. The bundle decision is therefore mainly about whether you want the privacy and performance tools on top of the security subscription.
The bundle is not identical on every platform
On Windows, AVG Ultimate includes Internet Security, TuneUp, Secure VPN, and AntiTrack. On Mac, the package includes Internet Security, TuneUp Premium, Secure VPN, and AntiTrack. Android receives AVG AntiVirus, Cleaner Premium, and Secure VPN. iOS receives Secure VPN and AVG Mobile Security.
That distinction matters for a mixed-device household. Do not count four full desktop apps on every one of the 10 devices. A Windows-heavy or Mac-heavy setup can use more of the named bundle than an iPhone-only setup, and Android/iOS use different AVG mobile components.
The 10-device limit is simultaneous across the Ultimate subscription, regardless of how many included apps you activate on each device.
Is Ultimate cheaper than buying the extras separately?
At current published prices, the $50 renewal premium over Internet Security is smaller than the store's standalone annual figures for Secure VPN, TuneUp, or AntiTrack individually. That makes Ultimate potentially economical if you would independently pay for at least one of those extras.
But this is not a guaranteed savings formula. Standalone promotions, renewal prices, device counts, platform support, and bundle contents can change. More importantly, software you do not use has no practical value even if its nominal standalone price is high.
A simple buying test is: would you pay at least $50 per year for the included VPN, TuneUp, AntiTrack, or a combination of them? If not, Internet Security's lower current renewal is the cleaner long-term choice.
Cancellation and refunds are separate actions
AVG lets you stop automatic renewal through your AVG Account or support. Turning off renewal leaves the already-paid subscription active through the end of its current period.
For annual subscriptions bought directly from AVG, the current policy allows a full refund request within 30 days of the initial purchase. Each subsequent annual charge is also eligible for a full refund if requested within 30 days of that charge. Third-party stores can use different rules.
Stopping future renewal does not itself submit a refund request; AVG directs refund requests through support.
Market context and next step
Avast Ultimate currently bundles Premium Security, SecureLine VPN, Cleanup Premium, and AntiTrack for 10 devices at $69.48 for the first year, with a current $139.99/year renewal. Bitdefender Premium Security currently shows $79.99 for the first year for five devices with unlimited VPN and Password Manager. Norton 360 Deluxe currently shows $49.99 for the first year and $124.99/year renewal for five devices, including VPN, Dark Web Monitoring, Parental Control, and 50 GB cloud backup. These are price-and-scope references, not protection or VPN-performance rankings.
If AVG Ultimate is still the same first-year price as Internet Security at checkout, use the first year to test the extras you actually intend to keep. Before renewal, ask whether Secure VPN, TuneUp, and AntiTrack together are worth the current additional $50/year for your real mix of devices. If not, move back to the narrower security plan before the next billing cycle.
