Verdict
AVG Internet Security is easiest to justify when AVG Free already covers basic malware protection but you want stronger web, network, phishing, webcam, and firewall controls across several devices. The current US store lists Internet Security for 10 devices at $59.88 for the first year and a current $99.99/year renewal. The unusual twist is that AVG Ultimate is also $59.88 for the first year right now, but its current renewal is $149.99/year.
Free already covers the basic threat layer
AVG AntiVirus Free and Internet Security both include real-time protection against viruses, malware, ransomware, unsafe links, downloads, and email attachments. Free also scans for some PC performance issues. If those basics are all you need, paying for Internet Security may not add enough value.
Internet Security adds the more important online-risk controls: Enhanced Firewall, webcam protection, unsafe Wi-Fi/network warnings, protection against fake and scam websites, phishing/pharming defenses, and safer shopping/payment features. The current product page also includes 24/7 product support and advertises a 30-day PC trial with no credit card required.
Four reasons Internet Security can be worth paying for
**Enhanced Firewall and network checks.** The paid tier adds controls designed to keep unwanted network access out and warn about insecure Wi-Fi. That is a real feature boundary over Free, but this article does not claim Toolnavia has measured attack-blocking performance.
**Fake-site and phishing protection.** Internet Security adds defenses against scam, phishing, and pharming pages beyond the Free plan's baseline malicious-link protection. This is useful for users who bank, shop, or sign in to important accounts online.
**Webcam and sensitive-file protection.** The paid product includes webcam protection and additional controls around personal files/passwords. These are documented features, not a guarantee that every privacy threat can be prevented.
**Ten-device coverage.** The current US store sells Internet Security for up to 10 devices. A household with several PCs, Macs, phones, or tablets can get more value from that scope than a one-device buyer.
Same $59.88 first year: Internet Security or Ultimate?
The current US store shows both AVG Internet Security and AVG Ultimate at $59.88 for the first year for 10 devices. That makes Ultimate look like the obvious choice at checkout—but the renewal changes the decision. Internet Security currently renews at $99.99/year, while Ultimate currently renews at $149.99/year, a $50 annual difference.
Ultimate includes Internet Security plus Secure VPN and TuneUp; AVG's current store comparison also includes AntiTrack in Ultimate. If you would otherwise pay for a VPN, device cleanup/performance tools, and anti-tracking features, the identical first-year promo can be attractive. If you will not use those tools, the higher published renewal is the more important long-term number.
Do not assume the identical first-year price is permanent. Promotions and future renewal prices can change. Save the order confirmation and use AVG's billing reminder as the source of truth for the next charge.
Refund and cancellation are separate
AVG's current US policy gives annual subscriptions a full-refund request window within 30 days of the initial purchase. Each subsequent annual charge is also eligible for a full refund if requested within 30 days of that charge. Third-party stores can have different rules.
Turning off automatic renewal stops future billing but keeps the paid subscription active through the already-paid period. Requesting a refund is a separate action. AVG's subscription details say customers can cancel through AVG Account and that the next-period fee is communicated before the anniversary.
Market context
Bitdefender Antivirus Plus currently costs $29.99 for the first year for three devices and includes a 200 MB/day/device Standard VPN. Norton 360 Deluxe currently costs $49.99 for the first year and renews at $124.99/year for five devices, with VPN, password manager, and 50 GB cloud backup. ESET HOME Security Essential currently displays $59.99 on its US page around the three-device selection. Malwarebytes currently sells Standard and Plus three-device plans, with Plus adding an unrestricted VPN and a 60-day money-back guarantee. These are price-and-scope references, not protection-quality rankings.
Next step
Use AVG Free first if you only need baseline antivirus and ransomware protection. Upgrade to Internet Security when the firewall, fake-site/phishing, webcam, Wi-Fi, and multi-device controls solve a real need. If Ultimate is still the same first-year price at checkout, compare the $50 higher current annual renewal against how much you will actually use VPN, TuneUp, and AntiTrack.
