Verdict

Bitdefender Antivirus Plus is a strong low-cost starting point when three devices need basic cross-platform security and the included VPN is only occasional. The current US page lists the three-device, one-year plan at $29.99 for the first year. Its Standard VPN is capped at 200 MB per day per device, so the real buying question is whether that limit fits your routine—not whether the plan has a VPN checkbox.

What the $29.99 plan actually includes

Antivirus Plus now covers Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS under the same product family. The current three-device plan includes malware and ransomware protection, scam and web protection, Data Breach Detection, and Standard VPN traffic of 200 MB per day on each covered device. A 30-day trial is also available.

That daily VPN allowance is useful for occasional public Wi-Fi or a short sensitive session, but it is not an unlimited privacy subscription. Bitdefender's subscription agreement says the VPN allowance follows the traffic limit attached to the security plan; unlimited traffic and broader server selection require a separate higher VPN entitlement.

Four reasons to stay on Antivirus Plus

**The three-device scope already matches the household.** If a laptop, phone, and third device are the only systems you need to cover, buying a five-device suite purely for unused seats adds cost without solving a problem.

**The core security functions are already present.** Antivirus Plus includes the malware, ransomware, scam, web, and breach-alert features that define the lower tier. This article records those documented features but does not claim Toolnavia measured detection rates, false positives, or performance impact.

**The VPN is only a backup tool.** At 200 MB/day/device, the bundled VPN can be enough for light use. If you already have a separate VPN or rarely need one, paying for unlimited traffic may duplicate another service.

**You can trial before committing.** Use the 30-day trial on the operating systems you actually own. Confirm the security app, browser protection, notifications, and the 200 MB VPN behavior before paying for a longer subscription.

Bitdefender first-year upgrade ladder

The upgrade ladder: $29.99, $59.99, or $79.99 first year

Bitdefender currently shows Antivirus Plus at $29.99 for three devices. Total Security Individual is $59.99 for five devices and adds Password Manager, Device Optimizer, Cryptomining Protection, Privacy Firewall, and other suite features. But its comparison still lists the Standard VPN rather than unlimited VPN.

Premium Security Individual is currently $79.99 for five devices and adds unlimited VPN traffic plus Password Manager and broader privacy features. Relative to the current Antivirus Plus first-year price, Total Security costs $30 more and Premium Security costs $50 more. Those are first-year differences, not renewal comparisons.

That makes the decision clearer: upgrade to Total Security for its additional device/security-management features; upgrade to Premium Security if unlimited VPN is the actual missing capability. Do not assume the middle tier removes the 200 MB/day VPN cap.

Renewal price is not fixed on the current Antivirus Plus page

Bitdefender states that the displayed purchase price is for the first year and that the subscription renews automatically. It also says the renewal price may be higher than the initial price and can change, with an email sent before billing that includes the upcoming amount. The current public Antivirus Plus page does not expose a fixed numeric renewal price for this exact three-device offer.

You can turn off auto-renewal in Bitdefender Central or through support. Current terms allow a refund request within 30 days of the initial purchase or an automatic renewal. Do not substitute a crossed-out price, a different Bitdefender tier, or an old review for the actual renewal notice on your account.

Market context

Avast Premium Security currently shows $49.99 for the first year for one desktop plus one mobile device, renewing at $77.99/year; its 10-device option is $69.99 first year and $99.99/year renewal. ESET HOME Security Essential currently displays $59.99 on its US page. Norton 360 Deluxe currently shows $49.99 first year for five devices and a $124.99/year renewal, with VPN and additional bundle features. These are price-and-scope references, not protection-quality rankings.

Next step

Start with the Antivirus Plus trial on representative devices. If three seats and 200 MB/day/device VPN are enough, the current $29.99 first-year plan is the simplest choice. If the VPN cap is the real blocker, compare Premium Security rather than assuming Total Security fixes it. Save the checkout and review the renewal email before the next charge.
