Verdict

1Password Families is worth considering when two to five people need separate private password vaults plus a controlled place to share household logins. The current US page offers eligible new direct customers a first-year price equivalent to $4.49 per month when billed annually—$53.88 before tax. Do not buy on that headline alone: the page displays $5.99 per month as the regular annual-billing equivalent, while the actual next invoice can depend on account notices and current rates.

Four household jobs the plan handles

Give each person a private account

Families includes five users. Each person gets a Private vault that other family members and organizers cannot browse. That is safer than putting everyone’s credentials in one shared spreadsheet or one person’s master vault. It also keeps a teenager’s, partner’s or parent’s personal logins separate while the household stays under one subscription.

Share recurring household credentials

The plan supports unlimited shared vaults. A household can separate Wi-Fi and streaming credentials from travel documents or emergency information, then grant access only where needed. Shared vaults are for continuing collaboration; a one-off item link may still be better when the recipient does not need a full account.

Recover access without seeing private items

Family organizers can help members recover their accounts and manage membership or shared-vault access. Recovery changes account credentials; it does not reveal the contents of another person’s Private vault. This is a practical advantage for a household, but it creates responsibility: choose organizers carefully and store each person’s Emergency Kit securely.

Use the same protection across devices

Every member can use supported 1Password apps and browser extensions, autofill credentials and review Watchtower warnings. The benefit is not merely storing passwords. It is giving several people a repeatable workflow for unique passwords, compromised-login alerts and controlled sharing across their phones and computers.

First-year price, renewal and extra members

The official US page checked October 7, 2026 shows $4.49 per month, billed yearly, for the first 12 months for eligible new customers subscribing directly through 1Password.com. That equals $53.88 before tax. The same page displays $5.99 per month as the regular annual-billing equivalent, or $71.88 for 12 months. Treat that as a displayed current regular price, not a guarantee of your next charge. Check the Billing page, renewal date and upcoming invoice before the first year ends; published terms allow fees to change with notice.

The base plan includes five family members and five guests. If an additional family member accepts an invitation, 1Password says it charges a prorated amount within 48 hours. Its current public support page does not state the numeric per-member rate, so confirm the upcoming invoice before inviting a sixth paid member.

A 14-day trial needs no credit card on the current offer page. Cancel during the trial to avoid the first charge. After a paid charge, the published refund policy says past charges and unused time are not refunded; cancellation keeps the account active until the period ends, then freezes it. Frozen accounts can still be signed into for viewing and export unless deleted.

Limits to decide before moving a household

Families has no permanent free tier. App-store billing can use different promotion and management rules. Removing one of the included five people does not reduce the base subscription, and an extra removed member gets a 30-day migration period before the change reaches a later invoice. Organizers also cannot inspect private vaults, so recovery and emergency-access expectations need to be agreed in advance. The public affiliate path routes publishers to CJ, but Toolnavia has no approval evidence, so no tracked link is shown.

Research context

We also read two family-specific comparisons and five broader pricing or product reviews. They reinforce that household buyers should compare seat governance and sharing rather than treat this as a generic single-user review; official pages still control current prices and policies.

Next step

Use the trial with two people first. Create one shared vault, keep personal items private, test recovery planning without locking anyone out, and check the Billing page. Add the rest of the household only after the sharing model and renewal cost make sense.
