NameHero Starter CloudShield: $21.23, Solo cPanel and a 3-Year Term
The short answer
NameHero Starter CloudShield is a managed VPS with 2 AMD CPU cores, 4GB RAM, 150GB NVMe and 2TB transfer. The live page shows $21.23 per month against a $49.37 regular reference on a three-year first invoice, while cPanel Solo, CloudLinux, LiteSpeed and managed support are bundled.
At a glance
- Best for
- A 2-core/4GB managed cPanel workload that benefits from CloudLinux, LiteSpeed and managed support while keeping root access.
- Price model
- $21.23/mo current 3-year first-invoice display vs $49.37 regular reference; exact renewal shown at checkout
- Check first
- Buyers needing many cPanel accounts without license upgrades, arbitrary root customization outside the managed control plane, or a shorter promotional commitment than three years.
The $21.23 rate is a three-year first-invoice display
NameHero's current VPS page says the promotional rate reflects a three-year billing cycle and applies only to the first invoice. That makes the simple first-term arithmetic 36 × $21.23 = $764.28 before tax and optional add-ons. The same page shows $49.37 as the regular reference, while the Payment Policy says VPS packages renew at the regular rate after the discounted first term.
An older NameHero pricing-help article still says the VPS page displays a monthly rate based on a one-year term. That conflicts with the current live page. Use the live three-year disclosure for today's public offer and save the actual checkout, because NameHero's current signup guide says the renewal price is shown during checkout.
Four bundled features reduce the usual managed-VPS add-on bill
Starter CloudShield includes cPanel/WHM, CloudLinux, LiteSpeed, Imunify360, SSL, website migration and 24/7 managed support. Full root access is also listed, so this is not a locked-down managed environment.
The 2-core/4GB/150GB resource envelope is materially larger than many entry managed VPS tiers, although it does not prove application throughput. One dedicated IP is included, and resources can be scaled later. These are useful purchase facts, but they still require workload testing rather than assuming a visitor limit.
“Free cPanel” means Solo unless you buy more accounts
NameHero's signup documentation is more precise than the product card: the free cPanel license is Solo and supports one account. If you need more than one cPanel account, you must select a larger license during configuration.
There is another checkout trap: NameHero warns that the cPanel account count and the LiteSpeed license must match. If you select 30 cPanel accounts while keeping a five-account LiteSpeed option, the VPS will not work as intended. Review both selectors together instead of treating “free cPanel” as an unlimited-account entitlement.
Backup retention depends on the quota you choose
The sales page promotes JetBackup for restoring account files from cPanel. The signup flow adds an important boundary: buyers select a Backup Quota, and NameHero says more quota provides more days of retention; the quota can be upgraded later.
The fetched public guide does not expose the current price for each backup quota, so this article does not invent one. Confirm the selected quota, retention and charge in the cart. Keep an independent export as well, because a control-panel backup should not be your only recovery path.
Root access can conflict with the managed-service boundary
CloudShield includes full root, but NameHero's Terms of Service warn that manually installing modules and bypassing WHM/cPanel could render management with NameHero void. That is a meaningful limitation for developers who hear “root access” and assume every custom server change remains fully supported.
Use root for changes that fit the supported stack, document them, and check with support before making low-level modifications that bypass the managed control plane. Managed support and root can coexist, but they do not mean every arbitrary customization is covered.
The 30-day refund still leaves setup and add-ons outside the refund
NameHero's current Payment Policy includes VPS hosting in its 30-day money-back guarantee, but VPS refunds exclude a $19.95 setup fee and do not cover additional services, license upgrades, migrations or other licenses. Refund eligibility is limited to one service per customer and requires both cancellation and a separate written refund request.
Use the first month to verify the actual invoice, cPanel/LiteSpeed account counts, backup quota, root-management boundary and one representative migration. Choose Starter CloudShield when 2 cores/4GB fits and the bundled cPanel/LiteSpeed/CloudLinux stack saves you from piecing together a managed VPS yourself. Skip it when you need many cPanel accounts, unrestricted custom root work, or a shorter commitment than the three-year promotional display.
