When this route fits
A virtual server suits a project that needs control over its runtime and services. If nobody will maintain the operating system, first compare a platform that takes on more of that work.
Size the whole project
The selected plan determines RAM, disk and virtual CPUs. Make a budget that also checks any additional storage, backups and network needs against the current official terms.
Validate a small deployment
Use a small non-production copy to measure idle memory and typical workload. Document how you will back up data, restore service and remove unused resources.
