Krystal Amethyst Shared Hosting: £7 Monthly and Upgrade Limits

The short answer

Krystal Amethyst is a sensible shortlist for one small site that needs cPanel, shell access and daily recovery points without buying a managed WordPress bundle. The UK page currently displays £7 per month. Choose it for predictable small-site administration, not unlimited capacity; confirm the tax-inclusive invoice and renewal before paying.

At a glance

Best for
One compact website needing familiar cPanel/SSH administration and documented daily recovery, with its owner willing to confirm cart and upgrade details.

Multiple production sites, heavy background workloads, emergency phone support or a managed application-development team.

What the £7 display does and does not buy

Twelve monthly payments at the displayed rate would total £84 before any tax adjustment, domain purchase or extras. That is arithmetic, not a quote for Krystal's discounted annual contract. The page offers longer billing cycles and a VAT toggle, but this review did not capture the toggle state or a final personalized cart.

Third-party price tables illustrate the risk: Centaur lists £8.40 after adding 20% VAT, while WHTop labels £7 as VAT-inclusive. Neither resolves your invoice. Check the same currency, tax setting and billing period before comparing. Save the renewal line too; no permanently fixed renewal price is promised here. Amethyst does not include a domain, and the advertised 60-day refund excludes domain costs.

Four useful benefits, with real capacity limits

The one-site allowance and 10GB NVMe pool suit a compact portfolio or business brochure site. Explicit 1 CPU, 2GB RAM and 250,000-inode limits make it possible to reject an oversized workload before migration. Count small files as well as gigabytes: a cache or mailbox can create many files without using much disk space.

cPanel, SSH/SFTP and Git provide familiar file, database and deployment workflows instead of forcing an AI builder. Daily off-site restoration provides a recovery route after an update. A documented quota-upgrade path makes expansion within shared hosting relatively straightforward. These are four practical reasons to shortlist it, not a claim that the account was benchmarked.

Backups: a restore calendar, not continuous protection

The current backup knowledge-base table specifies 31 daily restore points for Amethyst and Ruby. JetBackup can restore files, databases and other account components. A new order, form submission or edit after the latest snapshot can still be lost: daily backup frequency does not establish zero data loss.

Keep an independent export outside the hosting account, particularly before updates. Krystal reserves the right to remove backup/archive files left inside a plan for more than seven days. Downloading a backup and leaving it beside the website is therefore not a durable off-site strategy. During evaluation, restore a disposable clone and check its database, uploads and login rather than relying on a green backup badge.

Support: tickets are not an emergency phone line

The current support article lists 24/7 tickets for standard shared hosting, but live chat runs on weekdays from 9am to 5:30pm and phone support from 9am to 8pm. Amethyst has no 24/7 emergency phone entitlement. Platform support also does not replace a developer for broken application code.

The older TechRadar review tested the provider's own website, not an Amethyst-hosted customer site. Its result is not a benchmark for this plan. Web Hosting Reviews also raises support concerns, but its anecdotes cannot predict your account. Ask one representative technical question before migrating a business-dependent site.

Growing beyond Amethyst can mean two different jobs

Moving from Amethyst to Ruby adjusts account quotas once the upgrade invoice is paid. Moving from shared hosting to a Business or Reseller platform requires a technician and an agreed transfer time. Do not interpret every upgrade button as an instant, disruption-free capacity increase.

Shortlist Amethyst when one compact site fits and routine cPanel administration is valuable. Choose a larger or different service when you need several production sites, heavy background jobs, emergency phone cover or a managed application team. Document the future migration route before growth makes it urgent.

A practical next step

Request the exact monthly invoice, tax treatment, renewal, domain price and migration scope. Then compare a representative clone with your present site, test forms and restoration, and leave the old hosting active until checks pass. Toolnavia has verified an open cash affiliate program, but has no approved Krystal partner account on record; tracking remains disabled. This is a document-based buying guide, not a claim of personal hosting experience.
