InterServer Standard Backup Guide 2026: Are 4 Weekly JetBackup Copies Enough?
The short answer
**Quick verdict:** InterServer Standard includes **weekly JetBackup with four retained copies**, which is useful for ordinary shared hosting but not the same as daily recovery. For a site that changes every day, the key question is whether losing several days of data would be acceptable before your own independent backup fills the gap.
At a glance
- Best for
- Low/moderate-change shared sites that use weekly provider copies plus an independent backup when needed.
- Price model
- $2.50 first month, $7/month normal renewal context
- Check first
- Provider cadence is weekly; local backup archives can be excluded; daily-changing sites need a shorter independent/provider backup interval.
Four weekly copies means roughly four weeks of history
InterServer says Standard receives weekly backups with **four retained copies**. Those copies can include website files, MySQL databases and email accounts, and the backup system is kept off the production server. That gives useful rollback history, but a weekly schedule can leave up to about a week between provider-created restore points. That is recovery-point planning arithmetic, not a guarantee that exactly seven days will be lost.
Some local backup archives are excluded
InterServer's backup documentation excludes several cache/temp paths and common local backup archives, including cPanel-style backup files and Softaculous backup folders. Do not assume that uploading or generating a backup archive inside the same hosting account means JetBackup will preserve that archive. Store your independent copy somewhere else.
Weekly provider backup is not the same as verified recovery
A backup only proves value when it can be restored. InterServer's documentation describes the backup service, but a business-critical owner should still periodically restore a representative files+database copy to a safe test location. For email-heavy accounts, include mailbox recovery in that test because Standard backups can contain email accounts as well.
When daily recovery matters, change the backup layer
InterServer's service table says **Standard is weekly**, while **Boost 2/4 add daily backups**. That does not automatically mean a buyer must upgrade hosting. Another path is keeping Standard and running an independent daily database/file backup to remote storage. Choose based on acceptable data loss and restore workflow, not the word “backup” alone.
Standard price still needs the normal-offer context
The normal Standard offer is currently **$2.50 first month, then $7/month**. The technical page also lists weekly backups alongside LiteSpeed, CloudLinux and migration. Current HostingRanker, iTechGuides and WebHostWatch reviews reinforce that Standard is a low-cost normal shared-hosting product with weekly backup value; WebHostWatch also correctly separates the separate Price Lock campaign from the normal offer.
Four practical scenarios
**Portfolio/blog updated a few times per week:** four weekly provider copies plus an independent periodic backup may be enough. **WooCommerce, membership or booking site with daily transactions:** weekly provider backups are a weak primary recovery-point objective; add daily remote backup or consider a tier with daily provider copies. **Site storing backup ZIPs inside the hosting account:** move the independent copy off-account because common local backup archives may be excluded. **Email-heavy business:** include mailbox restore in your recovery test, not just WordPress files.
**Bottom line:** Standard's four weekly JetBackup copies are a useful **secondary recovery layer**, but daily-changing sites should design their own daily offsite backup or choose a service with a shorter provider backup interval.
