HostArmada Start Dock Free Domain: Claim in 7 Days, Plan Renewal
The short answer
HostArmada Start Dock's free domain can simplify a one-site launch if you already know the name and can claim it promptly. The published terms require at least 12 months of shared hosting and a request within seven days. Budget for domain renewal separately. This is official-document analysis, not a registration test.
At a glance
- Best for
- One modest site with a ready domain and annual budget.
- Price model
- First year $25.80; current later-year hosting model $143.40; domain renewal extra.
- Check first
- 7-day request window; transfer eligibility; conflicting domain-renewal wording.
Decide whether the bundle fits before paying
| Decision | What to check | |---|---| | Hosting commitment | At least 12 months for the domain promotion | | Claim deadline | Request at purchase or within seven days | | Domain choice | An eligible extension; availability and transfer approval still matter | | Start Dock capacity | One website, 15GB NVMe, 2 CPU cores, 2GB RAM | | First hosting year | $2.15 × 12 = $25.80 before tax and options | | Later hosting year | Current regular-rate reference: $11.95 × 12 = $143.40 | | Domain after year one | Obtain a separate renewal quote; public wording conflicts |
Start Dock is a plausible fit for one modest website whose owner wants hosting and domain administration together. The domain promotion reduces an initial registration expense; it does not add website slots or make a larger application fit the plan. A business that needs several independent websites should make the hosting-capacity decision first.
Use the seven-day window deliberately
The domain agreement permits the request during the hosting purchase or no later than seven days afterward. The promotion terms direct late applicants to sales or support for an explicit exception; they do not guarantee one. Treat the purchase date as the start of your claim checklist, not the day you begin brainstorming names.
An eligible existing domain may also qualify for transfer, which gives established site owners an alternative to registering an unnecessary second name. First confirm the extension, transfer status and contact details. HostArmada assigns responsibility for transfer eligibility to the customer.
For a new business, decide the spelling and ownership details before ordering. Registration availability is not final until the registry accepts the request. HostArmada's agreement says the domain belongs to the customer and uses the supplied account contact information. Check that this identifies the intended owner, especially when a developer handles the launch.
Separate the first invoice from renewal
The current Start Dock pricing page displays a 12-month cycle at $2.15/month, paid as **$25.80 for the first year**. It says discounts apply to the initial term and renewals use the regular price, currently $11.95/month. That models to **$143.40 for a later year**, before taxes and options; it is not a promise that future prices cannot change.
Domain renewal needs its own line in the budget. The Domain Portal still describes free renewal alongside hosting, while the Promotions Agreement says a freely registered domain will not renew free and the Domain Names Agreement limits the free period to one year. These official statements conflict. We use paid renewal as the conservative budget assumption and recommend written confirmation for the chosen extension.
The portal's displayed .com registration amount is not proof of the renewal charge. Ask for the exact renewal period, price, tax and any privacy add-on. The portal describes privacy protection as an add-on, so the free-domain headline alone should not be treated as an all-inclusive domain package.
Keep the registrar decision separate from hosting
HostArmada's portal offers DNS and domain management in the same Client Area. For someone starting from scratch, one administrative location can simplify finding the domain, renewal and nameserver controls. That convenience is a reason to consolidate; it is not a requirement to move an existing registration.
ICANN explains that recent registration, transfer or registrant changes can trigger transfer restrictions. Changing web hosts may still be possible by changing DNS while leaving the registrar in place. If a transfer lock clashes with the seven-day promotion window, do not assume the hosting purchase overrides it.
There is also a useful exit boundary: HostArmada's promotion terms deduct the domain registration cost from an eligible hosting refund, after which the customer retains the domain for its remaining term. That preserves the address, but means canceling hosting does not necessarily return every dollar paid.
Complete the purchase with a verifiable checklist
1. Choose the exact name and extension. For a transfer, check eligibility and authorization before starting the hosting clock.
2. Confirm Start Dock, the selected term and the domain promotion on the order. Save the initial hosting total and renewal reference.
3. Request the eligible registration or transfer within seven days; save confirmation of the request and any exception in writing.
4. Verify that the domain becomes active under the correct owner's details. Review DNS before pointing the live website and preserve existing mail records.
5. Record the separate domain expiry, renewal quote and auto-renew setting. Check that the resulting website and email still work. These are recommended acceptance checks, not tests performed for this article.
Choose this bundle when the domain is ready, one-site hosting fits and annual payment is acceptable. Keep your existing registrar—or delay purchase—when the name is undecided, a transfer is locked or free renewal is essential to the decision.
