GreenGeeks Lite Shared Hosting: $2.95 Intro vs $13.95 Renewal
The short answer
GreenGeeks Lite is a one-site shared hosting plan with a low first-year price and a much higher published renewal. The current offer is $2.95 per month prepaid for 12 months, then $13.95 per month at renewal, with 25GB web space and unmetered traffic. The more important buying questions are the 30-day migration window, the backup-policy wording, and what must be saved before cancellation.

First-year math is simple; the second term is the real budget test
At the current $2.95 monthly equivalent, 12 months of Lite works out to $35.40 before taxes or add-ons. The public plan page says the same tier renews at $13.95 per month. If that displayed monthly renewal applies across another 12-month term, the annualized equivalent is $167.40 before taxes.
GreenGeeks’ Terms say renewal charges use the then-current fee and auto-renewal should be disabled at least five business days before renewal if you do not want another term. Treat the live renewal line and account settings as controlling, not this arithmetic alone.
One site and 25GB are clear; actual traffic capacity is resource-bound
Lite currently includes one website, 25GB web space and unmetered traffic. “Unmetered” does not mean unlimited CPU, memory, I/O or files. GreenGeeks says shared accounts have finite RAM, CPU, I/O, entry-process and inode limits, and heavy usage can trigger slowdowns, alerts or the need to upgrade.
That makes Lite a cleaner fit for a small conventional site than for a large store or database-heavy application. GreenGeeks does not publish one reliable visitor number because real capacity depends on code, caching, database work and the resources each request consumes.
The free migration benefit has a 30-day clock
GreenGeeks’ Terms say the free transfer service is available for 30 days from the initial signup date. The current Migration Policy gives Shared Hosting one free migration: either one full cPanel migration or one manual migration. Additional manual Shared migrations are currently listed at $15 per website.
A full cPanel migration can carry domains, subdomains, settings and email when the old host’s backup generator is available; a manual migration is narrower. Keep the old host active until representative pages, forms, SSL, DNS and email are checked.
“Daily backups” does not equal a simple Lite restore promise
The public hosting page markets daily backups. GreenGeeks’ current Backup Policies say the platform aims to keep roughly 30 disaster-recovery backup sets; Pro and Premium customers have direct restore access, while other customers can request one free manual restore per month. The same policy says user-generated backups stored on the hosting account are generally removed after 48 hours and should be downloaded or sent to remote storage.
However, the current Terms also say GreenGeeks retains a platform backup copy for 24 hours for disaster recovery purposes only and makes the customer responsible for current archives. Those official pages do not give Lite buyers one clean retention promise. This guide therefore does not promise 30 days of restorable history or self-service restores on Lite. Keep an independent external backup and confirm current restore availability with support if recovery depth is critical.
The 30-day refund does not protect renewals, domains or cancellation mistakes
The Terms provide a 30-day refund window for initial hosting service, not renewals. Domain registrations and add-on services are non-refundable, and leaving during the money-back period can reduce the refund by the applicable domain registration fee when a promotional domain was included.
Cancellation is also operational, not just financial. GreenGeeks tells customers to download website files and email before requesting cancellation because a completed cancellation can permanently remove the hosting account and its files. Do not use provider-side disaster-recovery copies as your exit backup.
Who Lite fits—and what to save before paying
Lite makes sense for one small website when 25GB is enough, shared-resource limits leave room, and the first-year savings justify a much higher renewal. The 30-day migration window is useful if you are ready to move soon after signup.
Before paying, save the exact checkout total, renewal line, domain terms, selected billing cycle and migration deadline. Before canceling, save website files, databases and email somewhere outside GreenGeeks. If you need multiple websites, predictable long-term pricing, deeper self-service backup history or heavier sustained resources, compare Pro or another host before locking in the first term.
