GoDaddy Economy for Client Sites: Who Controls Access and Purchases?

The short answer

GoDaddy Economy can suit a small business that buys its own hosting while a developer operates the website. Delegate access lets the developer use a separate account, but the chosen permission level determines purchasing power. Decide who controls renewals and upgrades before ordering. This guide analyzes official documentation; no invitation or purchase was performed.

Buy the right account arrangement for one site

| Buying question | Economy and delegation | |---|---| | Hosting fit | One website, 25GB NVMe on the observed US plan | | Initial commitment | $5.99/month for 36 months; $215.64 before tax and extras | | Future renewal | Confirm the exact order; the $11.99 display is a regular-price comparison | | Developer identity | Their own GoDaddy account; no owner-password sharing required | | Hosting operation | Linux Hosting with cPanel supports delegate access | | Spending authority | Optional permission to buy using the owner's stored payment method | | Product upgrades | Restricted for delegates; assign this job to the owner |

For a client website, our recommendation is that the business retain its account login and billing control, then delegate the agreed technical work. This is an operating arrangement, not a legal ruling about ownership. Products purchased by a delegate on the owner's behalf are added to the owner's account.

That arrangement makes the handover less dependent on recovering a contractor's personal login. It still requires a business contact who can receive billing notices and act when an upgrade or payment change is needed.

Match access to the actual work

GoDaddy lists Linux Hosting (cPanel) among products supporting delegation, with no extra restriction in that product row. A developer can therefore operate a supported hosting product through delegated access, subject to the account-level permission rules. Product eligibility and permission level are separate checks.

For normal hosting work without buying authority, examine the **Products & Domains** level. It grants product-panel access without the purchase permission of **Products, Domains, & Purchase**. It is still powerful access: GoDaddy's table also permits canceling new products, so do not describe the lower level as read-only.

A person who only writes or edits WordPress content may not need GoDaddy access at all. WordPress defines content roles such as Editor and Author separately from Administrator. Our practical recommendation is to start with the least scope that covers the assignment, then add hosting access only when the work calls for it.

GoDaddy also describes domain-folder permissions. That does not establish separate permissions for every hosting subscription in an account. If different teams must be isolated across several client sites, confirm the exact hosting scope before choosing this arrangement.

Separate permission to spend from sensitive account control

A purchase-enabled delegate can use a stored payment method without being allowed to view or manage that payment information. Hiding the payment details therefore does not mean the delegate cannot spend. Give that authority only when buying or renewal work is part of the agreed role.

GoDaddy's restrictions also exclude changing the owner's password or Support PIN, viewing order history and inviting other delegates. These boundaries help keep account administration with the owner while technical work is delegated. They are not a substitute for agreeing on the scope of work.

The upgrade restriction is particularly useful to plan around: GoDaddy distinguishes new purchases and renewals from product upgrades. Name an owner who will handle an upgrade decision and be reachable when the developer needs more capacity. Do not discover this division during a launch deadline.

Budget the hosting before approving contractor purchases

The US Economy card read for this guide shows **$5.99/month for the first three-year term**, giving a calculated **$215.64 initial hosting charge** before taxes or additional products. It also displays $11.99 as a comparison rate. We did not verify a US renewal invoice, so that number is not presented as a guaranteed future bill.

The same generic route sometimes returned an Australian storefront with different terms and currency. The calculation here uses the successfully verified US-dollar card only. Check the market, term and final total in the actual order instead of combining regional offers.

The delegation help pages do not establish a separate feature price, so this guide does not invent an extra fee or promise a zero-cost add-on. Ask the developer to list any domains, email, security tools or other paid products separately before granting purchase authority. Economy's one-site allowance must fit the project regardless of how convenient delegation is.

Finish with a usable handover

The following combines GoDaddy's documented invitation procedure with our recommended acceptance checks:

1. The owner confirms the plan, billing contact, renewal responsibility and permitted spending. Record the developer's required tasks.

2. Open Delegate Access, choose Invite to Access, enter the developer's name and email, and select the agreed level. The developer accepts through their own GoDaddy account.

3. Verify the intended hosting panel is accessible and the owner still controls account administration. Do not make a charge simply to test purchase permission.

4. Save the deployment and renewal handover. When work ends, reduce or remove delegated access; GoDaddy allows the owner to change it later.

5. Inspect separately created WordPress users, FTP credentials and application keys. Removing a GoDaddy delegate should not be assumed to revoke these separate access paths automatically.

This setup fits one modest business site with a defined owner and contractor relationship. Seek a different operating model if you need verified separation between many hosting subscriptions or expect a developer to perform every upgrade independently. Our [Economy database-access guide](/hosting/godaddy-economy-remote-mysql-phpmyadmin-database-access) covers the separate technical access decision.
