Fasthosts VPS 1: £2 Intro Price, a 12-Month Linux Commitment

The short answer

Fasthosts VPS 1 is a low-cost shortlist for a small commercial Linux project whose operator can manage the server. Its £2 monthly introductory display lasts three months, but the promotion requires a twelve-month contract. The decision is not just affordability: budget for administration, separate backups and a cancellation deadline, without relying on a VPS money-back trial.

At a glance

Best for
A modest commercial Linux workload with a technical owner, independent recovery copies and a justified twelve-month commitment.
Price model
£2/month for 3 months then £5; eligible 12-month paid-monthly contract; £51 base-year arithmetic before VAT/extras
Check first
Windows, included Plesk, outsourced application administration, large uncertain workloads or a short refundable experiment.

The £2 offer commits you beyond three months

The current display moves from £2 per month for three months to £5 per month. On the eligible twelve-month contract paid monthly, the arithmetic is 3 × £2 + 9 × £5 = £51 before VAT and extras. This is a base-cost calculation, not a captured invoice or the price of an annually prepaid option.

The offer excludes pay-as-you-go contracts, existing-server renewals, upgrades and migrations. Its terms distinguish monthly instalments from annual prepayment and say prices exclude VAT. A short project should compare a separately confirmed one-month option rather than assume the promotion is cancellable after the cheap period. The dynamic configurator did not expose a final order summary, so stock, customer tax and the final payable total remain unconfirmed.

Four reasons to consider this small Linux server

Full root access lets you choose an application runtime instead of fitting it into a shared-hosting panel. An explicit allocation of one vCPU, 2GB RAM and 60GB NVMe gives a concrete starting point for screening a small service. An included IPv4 address and available IPv6 simplify endpoint planning. A choice of UK, German, Spanish or US locations can place the workload nearer its users.

These are useful controls, not a performance guarantee. Leave memory for the operating system, logs and maintenance; storage capacity does not establish how many busy applications will run smoothly. Ask which locations are available for the exact order, then test a representative workload before moving a business-dependent service.

Cloud Panel is not an included Plesk licence

The detailed VPS 1 column lists Linux, no operating-system choice and no Plesk. Other tiers and the page's general marketing describe broader options. Do not budget as though this entry plan includes a ready-made website-management suite.

HOSTtest's review illustrates why exact-plan matching matters: its badge names VPS 1, while its test description names VPS 2. VPSBenchmarks also separates trials by plan and generation. Neither provides a current Toolnavia-owned VPS 1 benchmark. Choose this plan for control you will actually use, not a borrowed review score.

Put recovery outside the hosting account

Cyber Protect is an additional purchase, and the general terms assign current backups to the customer. Ask for the backup capacity, retention and price you need instead of treating optional protection as included.

Andy Heathershaw's first-person Edition 2 walkthrough distinguishes a whole-server image from independent off-site backups and warns that restoring an image rolls the machine back. That is useful operational context, not proof of this order's entitlements or restore time. Keep an independent file and database export, preserve configuration separately, and verify a disposable restore before production migration. An image beside the server is not the same as a copy accessible after losing the hosting account.

Plan the exit when you place the order

The general terms describe commercial use and automatic renewal for another term equal to the initial term unless the confirmation email states otherwise. Cancellation requires at least thirty days' notice before renewal and the provider's written acceptance. Paying monthly does not remove the remaining minimum-term commitment.

VPS products are explicitly excluded from the advertised thirty-day money-back guarantee. Do not treat the first month as a refundable trial. Record the renewal date and cancellation process alongside your deployment notes; leaving a server unused is not evidence of an accepted cancellation.

Buy for control, skip it for outsourced administration

Shortlist VPS 1 when a modest Linux workload fits, a technical owner will patch and monitor it, and the full contract still makes sense after adding backup and administration costs. Skip it when you need Windows, included Plesk, a managed application team or a short refundable experiment. A higher-priced managed service may be the less expensive choice once your time is counted.

Before paying, obtain the exact order, renewal basis, region and required add-on prices. This is a document-based buying guide. Fasthosts has an open cash affiliate program that explicitly includes VPS, but no approved Toolnavia account is evidenced; tracking remains disabled.
