TOOLNAVIA / BUYING GUIDE

Bluehost Starter vs Business: Is $108 More Worth It?

The short answer

Bluehost Starter is the better default for a first or small WordPress site. Business is worth the upgrade only when you can name the thing that justifies the extra $108 over the first 36 months: more active sites, 50GB of storage, phone support, first-year domain privacy, or the additional protections listed on the current pricing page. If none of those solves a real problem, keep the money and choose Starter.

The price gap is $108 now and $144 at renewal

Starter is currently $3.99/month equivalent for a 36-month term, so the simple first bill is $143.64 before tax and optional products. Business is $6.99/month for the same term, or $251.64. The first-term upgrade therefore costs $108.

The current 36-month renewal figures are $9.99/month for Starter and $13.99/month for Business. That works out to $359.64 versus $503.64, a $144 difference over another three years.

Do not judge the upgrade only by the promotional $3 monthly gap. Ask whether the Business features save more than $108 during the first term and more than $144 at today's renewal rates. Bluehost can change prices, so the live cart and your later Renewal Center remain final. Some partner pages show lower campaign-specific intro rates; this article uses Bluehost's direct US page for consistent arithmetic.

What Business actually adds

Starter lists 10 websites, 10GB NVMe storage and an “ideal for” planning figure of about 40,000 visits per month. Business lists 50 websites, 50GB and about 200,000 visits. Those are useful planning ceilings, not promises that Business will load pages five times faster.

The upgrade is easiest to justify for someone managing several real sites or expecting storage-heavy media. A single brochure site with modest traffic can leave most Business capacity unused. Conversely, an agency portfolio or a growing network can outgrow 10GB before it outgrows WordPress itself.

Business also includes phone support, while Starter lists 24/7 chat and says phone support is not included. That is a concrete operational difference if the owner wants a voice escalation path. It is not a guarantee of faster resolution.

First-year domain privacy is listed with Business and not Starter. If privacy matters, compare the bundled value with buying it separately rather than treating it as a vague bonus.

One security claim needs a checkout check

Bluehost's current pricing page lists a web application firewall and DDoS protection under Business. However, a current official managed-WordPress comparison table lists WAF and DDoS protection for Starter as well.

Because the two Bluehost pages disagree, this article does not use WAF or DDoS alone as the reason to upgrade. Treat the live checkout and plan detail shown immediately before payment as authoritative, and save a copy of what is included. Business still has clear, uncontested advantages in storage, site count, phone support and first-year domain privacy.

Choose Starter when the limits leave room

Starter is the sensible buy when you run one or a few uncomplicated sites, 10GB is comfortable, the published visit-planning figure leaves headroom and chat support is enough. You still receive the core items listed across the lineup, including SSL, CDN, managed WordPress updates, migration tools and weekly backups.

This is not “underbuying.” It is avoiding a recurring premium for capacity you do not use.

Choose Business for a defined operating need

Pay for Business when you already have several active sites, expect storage to move beyond 10GB, want phone support, or value the first-year privacy bundle. The fivefold published site and storage allowances are real differences; the word “popular” is not a purchase reason.

If you are building a store, memberships or paid courses, compare Bluehost's eCommerce tier instead of assuming Business includes every commerce tool.

Your next step

Open the current Bluehost pricing page through the approved purchase buttons, select the same 36-month term for both plans and compare the final totals. Verify the feature row that matters most, remove optional extras you do not need, and record the renewal month.

If Starter still leaves capacity and support headroom, buy Starter. If one Business trigger is already part of the launch plan, paying $108 more now can be cleaner than starting with an undersized configuration.
