Squarespace Core Annual vs Monthly: Save $120 or Stay Flexible?
The short answer
Squarespace Core is $39 month to month or $348 paid for a year ($29 monthly-equivalent). Annual saves $120 over twelve payments and becomes cheaper when a ninth monthly charge would otherwise occur. Monthly is the safer first step when the site, team or platform fit is still uncertain.

The decision in one minute
This is the same Core plan under two billing cycles, not a Basic-versus-Core feature comparison. Twelve monthly payments cost $39 × 12 = $468. The annual invoice is $348, so the yearly saving is $120, or 25.6% of the monthly path.
The cash crossover arrives before payment nine: eight monthly payments total $312, still below $348; nine total $351, three dollars above the annual invoice. Choose monthly only when flexibility during those first eight paid months is worth more than the eventual $120 saving.
What annual billing does—and does not—buy
Core features do not improve because you choose annual. The billing choice changes commitment, cash timing and a first-year domain benefit, not plan capacity. Squarespace says annual website plans include one free custom-domain registration for a new site.
That domain is a separate subscription after the offer period. It can renew on its own billing cycle, and switching the website back to monthly does not turn the domain into a monthly charge. Treat the free first year as a benefit, not as a permanent reduction in website cost.
Twelve-month cost and month-nine crossover
At current US list prices, monthly is cheaper if you stop after one to eight paid months; current independent October checks corroborate the same Core anchors. Month nine is the first point where cumulative monthly charges exceed the annual invoice: $351 versus $348. At month twelve the gap reaches $120.
This crossover assumes no tax, promotion, add-on or future price change. Squarespace can adjust renewal pricing, with the new amount applied at the next scheduled renewal. Confirm the checkout total and next renewal amount instead of treating this page as a quote.
Refund and renewal risk
The annual saving comes with a strict refund boundary. A first annual website purchase can qualify for a full refund when canceled within 14 days. After that, annual cancellations are not refundable. Monthly plans and renewal payments are also non-refundable.
If a free domain was claimed and the annual website plan is canceled inside the refund window, its cost can be deducted from the refund. This means the nominal 14-day protection may not return every dollar. Record the purchase date, domain choice and renewal date together.
Subscriptions renew automatically. Squarespace normally emails an annual renewal reminder 15 days before the charge, while monthly renewals do not get that reminder. A calendar reminder is still safer than relying on email.
Switching cycles later
Moving from monthly to annual takes effect immediately and sets a new renewal date. Moving from annual to monthly waits until the current annual cycle ends. This asymmetry supports a simple validation strategy: start monthly, confirm that Core fits, then switch before the ninth paid month.
Do not assume a switch creates a retroactive promotion credit. Squarespace says annual offers apply to new annual purchases and are not redeemed as credit merely because an account changes cycles. Review the actual order screen before confirming.
Checkout and ownership checklist
Before paying, verify the Core plan, US-dollar market, billing cycle, tax, promotional terms, domain selection and every separate subscription. Save the invoice and renewal date. If Google Workspace, Acuity, Email Campaigns or another subscription is active, manage it separately; canceling the website does not automatically cancel every related service.

Decision rule
Choose monthly when you are validating the editor, integrations or team workflow, expect fewer than nine paid months, or need the smallest irreversible commitment. Choose annual when Core already fits, you expect nine or more payments, can absorb $348 upfront, and have a renewal reminder.
The cleanest sequence is to test Core month to month, decide by payment eight, inspect the tax-inclusive annual order, and switch only when the site is likely to remain. Annual is the cheaper twelve-month decision; monthly is the flexibility premium.
