Semrush SEO Annual vs Monthly: Save $260.04 or Stay Flexible?
The short answer
Semrush SEO is $139 monthly or $117.33 monthly-equivalent billed annually. Twelve monthly payments total $1,668; the implied annual invoice is $1,407.96, saving $260.04. Choose annual only when fit is proven and month eleven is likely.

The decision in one minute
This comparison holds the current standalone SEO plan constant. It does not revisit Semrush Free versus paid, team-seat economics or Semrush One bundles. The official USD card shows $139 monthly and $117.33 monthly-equivalent billed annually. Ten monthly payments total $1,390, still $17.96 below the implied annual invoice. Eleven total $1,529, which is $121.04 above it. Annual becomes cheaper only when an eleventh monthly charge would otherwise occur.
That threshold matters because “save up to 17%” is a marketing ceiling across plans, not the exact SEO-plan percentage. Using the displayed SEO figures, the saving is $260.04 divided by $1,668, or about 15.6%. Taxes, add-ons, extra users and later price changes remain outside this arithmetic.
What stays the same
Billing cadence does not upgrade the product. Semrush's SEO Toolkit documentation lists five websites to monitor, 500 tracked keywords, 100,000 pages crawled per month, 10,000 results per report, 250 keyword-metric updates and three scheduled PDF reports for the entry plan. Independent October checks corroborate five sites, 500 keywords and the current cadence.
The annual discount is payment for commitment, not added capacity. Buyers still deciding whether Free is sufficient should use Toolnavia's existing free-versus-paid guide. Teams calculating extra users should use the existing seat-cost guide. This page answers a separate question: once SEO is chosen, when is annual prepayment rational?
The $139 versus $139.95 conflict
The current pricing card rounds the monthly comparison to $139, while the detailed SEO Toolkit page and several independent checks show $139.95. Toolnavia uses the current product card for the headline because it is the checkout-directed offer associated with this identity, but the discrepancy is real.
At $139.95, twelve monthly charges total $1,679.40 and the gap to $1,407.96 becomes $271.44. Do not budget from either calculation blindly. Open checkout in the intended currency, record the pre-tax annual total and renewal date, and let the order summary control. The decision threshold remains near payment eleven under either display.
Refund and cancellation are different requests
Semrush's current legal policy offers a one-time seven-day money-back guarantee only for eligible initial subscription purchases whose committed term is twelve months or longer, plus certain initial add-on purchases. A written refund request must be submitted within seven calendar days of the qualifying order. The cancellation page separately says month-to-month subscriptions and renewal charges are not eligible for the standard guarantee.
Canceling the subscription does not itself request a refund. A buyer seeking an eligible initial annual refund must make the written request within the window and follow the specified support form. Outside that narrow case, the general terms treat fees as non-refundable. This makes annual safer than a blanket “no refund” rule suggests, but much riskier than “cancel anytime” sounds.
Renewal and cash ownership
Annual billing converts a recurring monthly decision into a larger prepaid commitment. Before purchase, assign one person to store the invoice, renewal date, currency, tax treatment and refund deadline. Add a renewal review well before the next charge, then confirm cancellation in writing if the tool is no longer needed.
Monthly buyers should still cancel before the next billing date; monthly flexibility does not make an already processed charge eligible for the annual guarantee. Annual buyers should test exact workflows during the trial or first days: keyword research, rank tracking, site audit, exports and reporting. A refund window is useful only when the test plan and owner already exist.
Checkout and usage checklist
Confirm the product is standalone SEO rather than Semrush One, then verify cadence, currency, tax, displayed annual total, renewal date, included user, extra-seat charges and every add-on. Save a screenshot or invoice. Compare ten months of expected use with the upfront annual invoice, not merely the monthly-equivalent label.
Semrush operates an open cash affiliate program through Impact, but Toolnavia has no approved account or enabled exact offer. This article therefore contains no commercial CTA, coupon or tracking link.
Decision rule
Choose monthly when fit is unproven, the project may end within ten paid months, cash flexibility matters, or no one owns renewal. Choose annual when the plan is validated, eleven or twelve months are likely, about $1,407.96 can be prepaid, the initial seven-day test is scheduled, add-ons are budgeted and renewal ownership is explicit.
Annual is the lower twelve-month base; monthly buys an exit option. The practical sequence is trial, short monthly validation if needed, then annual only after usage, checkout total and ownership are clear.
