TOOLNAVIA / BUYING GUIDE
Private Internet Access VPN: $47.88/Year With Unlimited Devices
The short answer
Private Internet Access (PIA) is unusually simple to budget on its current one-year website plan: $47.88 for the first year, with the same $47.88 annual renewal currently shown. The stronger differentiator is device scope—PIA says every VPN subscription allows unlimited simultaneous device connections. The trade-off is that longer promotional pages currently disagree with each other, so the one-year plan is the cleaner reference for a predictable purchase decision.
This is an official-document buying analysis, not a Toolnavia speed, privacy, no-logs, streaming, or security test.
At a glance
- Best for
- Households or individuals who need many simultaneous VPN connections and prefer a clear one-year direct budget.
- Price model
- Current direct USD: $47.88 first year and currently $47.88/year renewal
- Check first
- The long promo is inconsistent across official pages, app-store refund rules differ, and Toolnavia did not test VPN performance.
The one-year plan is the cleanest current price reference
PIA's direct order page currently shows the one-year plan at $3.99/month equivalent, billed $47.88 for the first year and then auto-renewing annually at $47.88. The monthly option is $11.95 and renews monthly. These amounts are shown in USD; tax can apply.
The longer promotion is less stable across PIA's own current pages. One official feature page shows 3 years + 3 months at $1.79/month with $69.81 three-year renewals, while another current download/order surface shows $2.03/month and $79 every three years. Do not treat either long-term promo as universally current without checking the checkout you actually receive.
Four PIA boundaries worth checking before paying
**Unlimited simultaneous VPN devices.** PIA's current support says all VPN subscriptions allow an unlimited number of devices to connect simultaneously. That is materially different from services that cap active VPN sessions. It still does not mean one account should be shared outside the permitted account terms; keep credentials controlled and test the clients you actually use.
**The direct 30-day refund window has exclusions.** PIA offers a 30-day money-back guarantee on most direct purchases, but App Store and Google Play purchases use those stores' refund processes. Gift cards and third-party deal-site purchases are not covered by the direct guarantee, and a recent prior refund can also affect eligibility.
**Canceling renewal and asking for a refund are separate steps.** Turning off auto-renewal stops the next billing cycle while service remains active through the paid term. If you want a refund and remain eligible, PIA requires a separate support-ticket request. Do not assume the cancel button submits that request.
**Core features are documented, not benchmarked here.** PIA currently lists WireGuard and OpenVPN, an advanced kill switch, router support, and MACE DNS-level blocking for ads, trackers, and malicious domains. These are documented capabilities, not Toolnavia measurements of speed, leak resistance, blocking accuracy, or privacy performance.
$47.88 first year and $47.88 current annual renewal
At the current direct one-year price, the billing timeline is straightforward: $47.88 covers the first 12 months, and the order page currently says the subscription renews annually at $47.88. PIA also states that future fees can change with advance notice, so the current equality is not a lifetime price guarantee. Save the confirmation email and check the next payment date in the Client Control Panel.
PIA's support says most accounts auto-renew according to the purchased term. Current promotions shown to new accounts are not automatically renewal prices unless the order terms say so. Website buyers can turn off auto-renewal in the Client Control Panel and continue using the service until the paid term ends.
For context, CyberGhost's current long offer charges $51.74 for the first 26 months and then $51.74/year with seven simultaneous VPN connections; Proton VPN Plus currently shows $47.88 for the first year but $83.88/year afterward and up to 10 devices; Mullvad keeps a flat €5/month and supports up to five devices; Surfshark currently advertises unlimited simultaneous connections. These are billing-and-device references, not speed or privacy rankings.
Suggested rehearsal: use the devices you actually own
Before relying on unlimited simultaneous connections as the deciding feature, install PIA only on representative noncritical devices: for example, one computer, one phone, and one TV or router workflow if relevant. Confirm sign-in, connection, and disconnect behavior on each. Then add more test clients only if your household or workflow genuinely needs them.
Also open the Client Control Panel and locate the next payment date and auto-renewal control before the refund window closes. If the service does not fit, turn off future renewal and separately submit a refund request while eligible. These are proposed checks, not Toolnavia test results.
Choose PIA for device scope and a clear one-year budget
The current one-year plan is easiest to understand when unlimited simultaneous devices are valuable and $47.88/year fits the budget. If the three-year promotion is more attractive, verify the exact live total and three-year renewal because PIA's own current pages disagree.
PIA's official affiliate program is open and advertises up to 33% commission on new sales. A separate PIA partnership page also mentions commissions on new and recurring sales over a customer's lifetime. Toolnavia's actual approved rate and recurring eligibility are unverified, so affiliate tracking remains disabled.
