Intego ONE Advanced vs Complete: Is VPN + iPhone Worth $20 More?
The short answer
Intego ONE Advanced is the better default when you already have a VPN or do not need iPhone tools. Complete costs $9.50 more in the first year and $20 more at the observed annual renewal, so choose it only when its VPN and matching iPhone coverage are worth that premium.
At a glance
- Best for
- Mac buyers deciding whether Complete's VPN and matching iPhone tools justify $9.50 more first year and $20 more at observed renewal.
- Price model
- Advanced $48.99 → $69.99/year; Complete $58.49 → $89.99/year observed
- Check first
- Current U.S. checkout before tax; VPN and iPhone tools not hands-on tested; renewal may change.
Start with the exact cash difference
The current U.S. checkout showed Advanced for one Mac at $48.99 for the first year, then $69.99 per year before tax. Complete showed one Mac plus one iPhone at $58.49 for the first year, then $89.99 per year. Both are auto-renewing subscriptions unless canceled before the renewal date, and the checkout says renewal pricing may change with advance notice. Intego's renewal support separately says promotional discounts do not carry forward.
That makes Complete's observed premium $9.50 in year one and $20 at the next annual renewal. Do not compare only the promotional difference. A three-year worksheet using the displayed figures is $188.97 for Advanced versus $238.47 for Complete, before tax and assuming the published renewal amounts remain unchanged. The resulting $49.50 gap is a planning example, not a guaranteed future bill.
An independent September pricing page reported the same $69.99 and $89.99 annual plan prices as renewal references. A recent Macworld review displayed higher first-year amounts than the current checkout snapshot, so the live checkout—not a review headline—should control the final purchase.
What both plans already include
Intego's plan table says Advanced and Complete both include the Mac antivirus, firewall and SmartClean cleanup tools. The legacy-product mapping says Advanced is the tier that adds SmartClean over Essential, while Complete keeps those tools and adds VPN and iPhone protection. If your buying reason is only antivirus, firewall and Mac cleanup, Complete does not improve those three rows merely because it costs more.
That distinction matters because the existing [SmartClean buying test](/en/software/intego-smartclean-value) already asks whether cleanup saves enough time to justify Advanced. This comparison begins after that decision. It does not repeat a generic Mac-security review or claim that a higher tier produces better malware detection.
What Complete adds—and what “iPhone protection” means
Complete adds Intego's VPN on Mac and iPhone, plus Wi-Fi safety and speed checks and a security-settings check-up on iPhone. Intego's device guidance pairs the selected number of Macs with the same number of iPhones: one Mac plus one iPhone, three plus three, or five plus five.
The iPhone component should not be described as the same antivirus engine used on the Mac. Intego's own iPhone materials focus on VPN, network checks and device-security settings. Its mobile-spyware guidance also explains the platform limits around conventional iPhone scanning and removal. Complete can still be useful, but buyers should value it as privacy, connection and security-posture tooling—not as a second desktop-style malware scanner.
The existing [Complete Mac-and-iPhone guide](/en/software/intego-complete-mac-iphone) examines that bundle on its own. Here, the narrower question is whether those additions exceed the price gap over Advanced.
Use the premium as a break-even ceiling
Treat $9.50 in the first year and $20 at the observed renewal as a ceiling for the extra bundle. If you would otherwise pay more than that for a VPN that fits your needs and you also value the iPhone checks, Complete may be economical. If a trusted VPN is already paid for, supplied by work or bundled elsewhere, its duplicate value can be close to zero.
Do not assume the included VPN automatically wins on locations, streaming access, audit history, speed or household device policy. Those dimensions require a separate current comparison. Norton and Bitdefender also arrange consumer-security tiers around device counts and VPN/privacy features, which shows why the seat-and-service bundle matters more than a brand-level score.
The break-even test is simple:
1. List the exact extra service you would buy without Complete. 2. Record its after-promotion annual cost and device limit. 3. Add any value you genuinely assign to the iPhone Wi-Fi and settings checks. 4. Compare that total with Complete's $9.50 first-year and $20 renewal premium. 5. If the extras duplicate tools you already have, choose Advanced.
Match the seat count before comparing prices
The quoted pair is not an unlimited household license. Advanced covers the selected Mac count. Complete covers that number of Macs plus the same number of iPhones. A household with two Macs and one iPhone should not force its decision into the one-pair price. Reprice the actual three- or five-seat option and check whether every intended person can use the service without sharing credentials improperly.
Intego says its plans can be ordered for one or two years, with the checkout showing plan, term, device count and renewal terms. Longer terms can change the first-payment arithmetic and delay the next renewal, but they also increase prepaid commitment. Recheck the selected term, seats, tax and renewal disclosure immediately before paying.
Choose Advanced or Complete
Choose Advanced when one or more Macs need antivirus, firewall and SmartClean, while VPN and iPhone tooling are unnecessary or already covered. Its lower renewal base makes the decision easier to audit.
Choose Complete when the same household genuinely needs the included VPN and matching iPhone seats, understands the iPhone app's narrower role and accepts the higher renewal. Complete is not “better” for every Mac; it is a bundle with two specific additions.
