TOOLNAVIA / BUYING GUIDE
Grammarly Pro Student Discount: $72 First Year, Then $144?
The short answer
Grammarly Pro’s verified-student offer is worth considering if advanced editing, citation, plagiarism checks, or Authorship records solve a repeated academic need. It is not the first thing to buy. Ask whether your school already supplies Grammarly for Education, test the Free plan on real coursework, and confirm the SheerID price in checkout. If the full 50% applies to the current $144 annual rate, the first subscription period is $72; the subscription then renews at the standard rate unless another valid offer applies.

Start with the true cost
Grammarly currently lists Pro at $30 monthly, $60 quarterly, or $144 yearly. Its student support page says eligible students can receive 50% off through SheerID for one subscription period. A second official page describes savings up to $72. That makes $72 a reasonable first-year calculation for the annual plan, but it is not a lifetime student price.
The discount cannot be combined with other offers, backdated to an earlier purchase, or applied to App Store or Google Play purchases. It applies to the first seat; extra seats use standard pricing. Taxes and regional currency can change the checkout total.
Check the zero-cost route first
Before paying personally, ask your library, writing center, graduate school, or IT department whether the institution already licenses Grammarly for Education. An institutional license can cover enrolled students without a personal Pro purchase. This step is easy to miss because the individual student promotion and the campus product are separate paths.
If there is no campus access, use Grammarly Free on two or three real assignments. Basic spelling, grammar, and tone help may be enough for short emails or occasional papers. Paying is easier to justify when the same advanced need appears repeatedly across a semester.
What the paid plan can add
Grammarly says Pro includes full-sentence rewrites, tone adjustments, plagiarism and AI-text detection, citation tools, 2,000 monthly generative-AI prompts, and Authorship records that document how writing developed. The benefit is not “better grades.” It is less time spent locating recurring clarity problems, checking citations, or assembling evidence of an original writing process.
A graduate student preparing a thesis chapter may value citation support and Authorship. A student writing one short paper a month may get little value beyond Free. Detection tools can be wrong and do not prove misconduct or originality, so they should never be treated as a guarantee.
Verification and academic-policy boundaries
SheerID may request an institutional document and says verification can take up to seven business days. Verify before a deadline, not the night before submission. Also read the instructor’s AI policy. Some courses permit grammar correction but restrict generative rewrites; a paid feature does not override that rule.
Third-party pages conflict because several August 2026 snapshots said there was no fixed student percentage. Current Grammarly support now explicitly states 50% for eligible students, so the current official page controls. Treat the offer as limited-time and recheck it on the day of purchase.
Affiliate and checkout disclosure
Grammarly’s public affiliate program remains open and pays cash for qualified free sign-ups and upgrades. Toolnavia is not currently approved for an exact Grammarly Pro offer, so this research package must not show a tracked purchase button. Any future commercial link requires an approved, market-confirmed, enabled exact offer and a fresh check that it can coexist with the SheerID promotion.
Who should pay
Pay the verified $72 annual price when you have no campus license, the Free plan leaves repeated advanced needs unresolved, your course permits the features you intend to use, and you accept a possible $144 standard renewal.
Keep Free when you only need occasional corrections, already receive campus access, or cannot identify a recurring task worth $72. Before checkout, confirm the verified total, renewal line, tax, cancellation date, and whether the promotion applies to the annual period you selected.
