Close CRM Number Porting: Keep Your Sales Number Without a Blind Cutover

The short answer

Close CRM number porting can be a strong reason to adopt Essentials when customers already know your sales number. You can bring a familiar contact point into the CRM rather than teach everyone a new number. Buy after eligibility and call handling are understood, not on the assumption that a transfer will happen immediately.

This is official-documentation analysis, not a completed port or call-quality test.

Decide what keeping the number is worth

Start with the business role of the number. Is it printed on proposals, saved by repeat customers or used for callbacks after outbound sales? Keeping that contact point can protect continuity. If the number is new and scarcely used, testing with a separate number may be easier.

Essentials includes calling access, but calls and number rental are not an unlimited bundle. The value is bringing communication into the sales process, not making the existing carrier bill disappear without replacement.

Check eligibility before choosing a cutover date

Close documents default support for US and Canadian number porting. Other countries require confirmation of the country, full number and number type. A Twilio-to-Twilio move follows an internal-transfer process; other transfers require ownership information.

This gives existing compatible setups a defined route, while preserving the possibility of keeping a familiar number. It is not permission to assume every mobile, local or toll-free number is transferable. Ask about the exact number before making annual software commitments depend on it.

Treat paperwork and timing as a project

For a US carrier transfer, the documented process includes a signed authorization and an invoice or customer service record. Matching names and addresses matter. The guide describes processing windows of two to four weeks for US requests and two to six weeks internationally; these are not guaranteed completion dates. Porting stops service for that number with the old provider.

Assign an owner to collect the information and track responses. Coordinate with the existing provider rather than prematurely cancel service. A missed administrative detail can matter more than the CRM's attractive feature list when the number is the main way buyers reach you.

Model the recurring bill separately

At current Essentials rates, two seats cost $840 annually upfront or $98 per month. Add number rental, calling, applicable messaging and tax. Compare that combined budget with the carrier and CRM services you can genuinely retire.

Rates depend on destination and number type. Forwarding can create separate inbound and outbound charges. For a useful estimate, group recent calls by destination, duration and routing rather than multiply every minute by one guessed universal rate. Request current pricing for the actual configuration; renewal and usage prices can change.

Accept the phone journey before relying on it

The proposed exercise begins with a noncritical test number or controlled pilot. Check inbound ringing, outbound caller identity, a missed call and the intended callback process. If messages matter, confirm that capability separately. Document which user handles each result.

After a confirmed transfer, repeat those checks with the retained number and an outside caller. Have a fallback contact method during the agreed transition. This is a continuity plan, not a claim that downtime is inevitable or that a particular routing setting is included in every arrangement.

Keep an exit path in the purchase decision

Close documents a support-assisted port-out process. Knowing how to move a valuable number later is a useful benefit, but save ownership records and include exit coordination in your plan.

Choose Close when the exact number is eligible, the call journey works and the combined bill fits. If any of those remain unknown, use a pilot before depending on the transfer.
