Namecheap Stellar for Node.js & Python: Shared Hosting or VPS?

The short answer

**Quick verdict:** Namecheap Stellar is a credible low-cost choice for a small **cPanel-managed Node.js app** or a conventional **Python WSGI app**. It is not a general-purpose application server: Namecheap says **ASGI is not supported on shared servers**, detached daemons are prohibited, cron has a five-minute minimum interval, and every process remains inside shared CloudLinux limits.

What “Node.js supported” actually means

Namecheap documents a cPanel flow that creates a Node.js application, selects a runtime version, sets the application root and starts the app through the hosting control panel. That is useful for a small Express site, webhook receiver, internal dashboard or lightweight API whose process model fits the managed application wrapper.

It does **not** mean unrestricted root access, arbitrary background services or an unlimited always-on worker fleet. Namecheap's shared-server restrictions prohibit detached daemons and long resource-heavy scripts. Treat Stellar as managed shared hosting with an application launcher, not as a tiny VPS.

Python: WSGI fits; ASGI changes the answer

For Python, the important buying split is not “Python yes or no.” Namecheap provides a documented shared-hosting route for Django through WSGI. But its Python application guide explicitly says ASGI applications are not supported on shared servers and directs those workloads to VPS or Dedicated hosting.

A conventional Django or Flask site can therefore be a fit. FastAPI, WebSockets, async-first Django, long-lived connections or an ASGI worker design should be budgeted as a VPS-class requirement from day one.

Cron, workers and resource ceilings

Shared cron jobs must run no more often than every five minutes, and no more than five may execute simultaneously. That can cover periodic cleanup, reports or queue polling, but it is a poor substitute for a continuously running queue worker.

Namecheap also prohibits detached daemons and says a script may not consume 25% or more of server resources for 60 seconds or longer. CloudLinux LVE separately meters CPU, memory, entry processes and I/O. A workload that needs a resident worker, high concurrency, video processing or sustained CPU should skip shared hosting.

Price context without mixing billing terms

At the time checked, the official page showed an annual introductory charge of **$26.88/year** and annual renewal of **$55.88/year**. The same purchase flow also exposed a **$5.88 monthly** path and a separate **$102.88 two-year renewal** path. These are different billing terms, so their apparent monthly equivalents should not be blended into one promise.

The price is attractive only if the architecture fits. Saving on hosting while redesigning an ASGI or worker-heavy app is false economy.

How alternatives change the decision

SiteGround and Hostinger also publish managed Node.js guidance, while Hosting.com documents persistent Node.js processes. Their value here is architectural: compare whether the provider offers the process model, runtime version, deployment controls and persistence your app needs. This article does not claim they have identical plans or prices.

Pre-purchase checklist

Before checkout, confirm:

1. The exact Node.js or Python version you need is currently offered. 2. Your Python app is WSGI rather than ASGI. 3. No detached daemon or continuously running background worker is required. 4. Scheduled jobs tolerate a five-minute minimum and five-job concurrency cap. 5. Sustained CPU, memory and connection demand fits shared LVE limits. 6. The live checkout term and renewal match your budget.

**Bottom line:** buy Stellar for a small managed Node.js or WSGI application with short tasks and modest traffic. Choose VPS or another persistent-process platform when ASGI, WebSockets, resident workers, custom services or sustained compute are core requirements.
