TOOLNAVIA / BUYING GUIDE
InterServer $3 VPS Panel Cost: $6.75, $11 or $18?
The short answer
**Quick answer:** InterServer's $3 one-slice Linux VPS is the compute price, not a guaranteed all-in website-management price. Current InterServer pages publish **DirectAdmin at either $3.75 or $8 per month**, **cPanel at $15**, and **Plesk at $17 (cost may vary)**. Added to the $3 slice, the visible monthly paths are therefore $6.75, $11, $18 or about $20. The two DirectAdmin figures conflict, so verify the exact license and final cart before ordering.

The $3 headline is only the server layer
A one-slice InterServer VPS currently supplies 1 core, 2 GB RAM, 40 GB SSD and 2 TB transfer for $3 a month. InterServer says panel licensing is handled in the order flow, so the final total depends on configuration.
Running the server without a paid panel keeps the published compute total at $3, or $36 for twelve months. That is cheapest only for a buyer comfortable maintaining the operating system, web stack, databases, mail, security updates and backups from the command line. The $3 price does not make that labor disappear.
Four visible panel-cost paths
InterServer's upgrades page lists DirectAdmin at $8, cPanel at $15 and Plesk at $17 monthly. On a $3 slice, that produces:
- no paid panel: $3/month or $36/year; - DirectAdmin using the $8 upgrade figure: $11/month or $132/year; - cPanel using the $15 upgrade figure: $18/month or $216/year; - Plesk using the $17 figure: about $20/month or $240/year.
But InterServer also has a dedicated DirectAdmin page listing Personal Plus at $3.75, Lite at $11.25 and Standard at $21.75. Personal Plus plus one slice would be $6.75/month or $81/year. The $51 annual gap between $81 and $132 is large enough that the order-flow SKU must be confirmed before budgeting.
Why provider and retail prices do not match
DirectAdmin's own retail page lists Personal Plus at $5, Lite at $15 and Standard at $29. cPanel's official 2026 Store price starts at $29.99 for a one-account Solo Cloud license, far above InterServer's published $15 cPanel add-on.
These differences are not automatically errors: hosting providers can publish channel, bundle or account-specific prices. A same-intent 2026 comparison warns that many articles mix stale vendor and provider figures, while an independent provider price list shows the same pattern across DirectAdmin, Plesk and cPanel. Use InterServer's live checkout for an InterServer purchase, while vendor pages explain account limits and whether a quote is retail or provider-supplied.
Which option fits the one-slice buyer?
Choose **no paid panel** only when command-line administration is already part of your workflow. Choose the lowest DirectAdmin tier when two accounts and 20 domains are enough and the live InterServer cart confirms the $3.75 license.
Choose **cPanel** when WHM/cPanel familiarity is worth the published $15 add-on. The direct-store Solo price is not the number to add to InterServer automatically; it is a comparison point. Choose **Plesk** when its subscription model or Windows-related workflow matters, but InterServer's VPS FAQ says its offered panels on Linux VPS are cPanel and DirectAdmin, so Plesk availability and operating-system fit need explicit confirmation.
Costs the panel does not settle
A panel reduces interface friction; it does not create an independent backup policy, guarantee application maintenance or make a one-slice server suitable for every workload. Existing InterServer articles cover compute, backup and scaling. This guide answers the separate question: what monthly total appears after adding a control panel?
Before purchase, confirm the exact panel edition, account/domain cap, installation charge, first and renewal price, and cancellation terms. InterServer says VPS is month to month but has no trial or money-back period.
Verdict
For one small server, the best-value published route is **$3 compute plus the confirmed lowest suitable DirectAdmin license**. If the $3.75 Personal Plus option appears in your cart, the visible total is $6.75/month. If only the $8 upgrade appears, budget $11. cPanel raises the visible total to $18; Plesk is about $20 and needs availability confirmation.
Do not buy from the headline alone. Save the final configuration, verify panel limits, and treat any number outside the live cart as a dated research reference—not a guaranteed renewal quote.
