TOOLNAVIA / BUYING GUIDE

Cloudways Micro vs HostPapa Growth: $396 or $214.20 for 3 Years?

The short answer

Cloudways Flexible Micro and HostPapa Growth can both run several WordPress sites, but they sell different commitments. Cloudways currently shows **US$11/month** (US$0.0357/hour) for 2GB RAM, 1 vCPU, 50GB storage and 2TB transfer. HostPapa Growth shows **US$5.95/month with a three-year discounted term**, or **US$214.20 upfront**, for five sites, 100GB NVMe and ten mailboxes.

A Cloudways server running for 36 months costs **US$396** before backup storage, email and add-ons. HostPapa's first term costs US$214.20. Its current three-year renewal is **US$503.64**, so six years total **US$717.84**. Cloudways is **US$792** for six years before backup and mailbox charges.

Quick verdict

Choose **HostPapa Growth** for five modest sites when bundled email, cPanel familiarity and the lowest stable three-year cash outlay matter most. Choose **Cloudways Micro** when explicit server resources, hourly metering and the ability to delete a short-lived server are worth more than bundled email.

This is not a speed ranking. HostPapa is shared hosting; Cloudways is a managed cloud server. Their resource labels are not equivalent, and no controlled benchmark was run.

Three-year price and renewal

HostPapa's US$5.95 price requires the three-year promotional term. Its official renewal table lists US$13.99/month for another three-year term; one-year and monthly renewal rates are higher.

Cloudways is postpaid. The current Micro plan caps a full month at US$11. Partial-month use can cost less, but stopping the server does not stop billing. Export data, delete the server and disable paid add-ons to end future charges.

At current prices, HostPapa's six-year base is US$74.16 below Cloudways' base server. Cloudways buys commitment flexibility, not the cheapest bundle.

Five sites versus one server

HostPapa Growth lists five websites, 100GB NVMe, staging and “2X” shared resources. CPU, memory, processes and inodes still have shared-account limits.

Cloudways says unlimited websites, but every app shares 2GB RAM, 1 vCPU, 50GB storage and 2TB transfer. “Unlimited” means no app-count fee, not unlimited compute.

Before checkout, inventory plugins, PHP concurrency, database size, media growth, cron jobs and peak traffic. Five brochure sites and five busy stores are different purchases.

Email changes the total

HostPapa Growth lists ten mailboxes with 1GB each and 5GB total storage. Cloudways does not bundle normal inbox hosting; its Rackspace add-on is US$1.50/month per 25GB mailbox. Five mailboxes add US$270 over three years.

If you already use Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, included HostPapa mailboxes may add little value. Otherwise, they can materially change the comparison.

Backup responsibility

Cloudways Flexible requires off-site backups at US$0.033/GB, rounded in US$0.50 increments. The US$11 server price is therefore not an all-in invoice.

HostPapa Growth advertises 5GB automated backups free for the first year on eligible terms. Confirm post-year-one price, coverage and whether 5GB is enough for all sites. Keep an independent copy and test a restore on either host.

Source conflicts

Independent comparison pages prove real buyer interest, but one lists older HostPapa Growth pricing/site counts and an older Cloudways storage figure. Current official pages show US$5.95, five sites and 50GB for Cloudways Micro, so this article rejects the stale numbers.

Checkout checklist

For **Cloudways**, verify the US$11 infrastructure, region, hourly rate, backup estimate, email plan, add-ons and deletion steps. [Check Cloudways](/go/cloudways-managed-hosting-flexible-official-usd).

For **HostPapa**, verify the US$214.20 prepayment, US$503.64 renewal, site/mailbox limits, first-year backup wording, taxes and refund exclusions. [Check HostPapa Growth](/go/hostpapa-web-hosting-growth-official-usd).

**Bottom line:** HostPapa Growth is cheaper for a stable five-site bundle; Cloudways Micro is stronger for explicit resources and changeable commitments.
