Unbounce Build vs Starter: Are 20,000 Visitors Worth $624/Year More?

The short answer

Unbounce Build costs $74 per month on annual billing versus Starter at $22, so the yearly totals are $888 and $264—a $624 gap. That is a large jump, but the capacity difference is equally large: Starter is capped at five landing pages and 500 monthly unique visitors, while Build allows unlimited landing pages and up to 20,000 monthly unique visitors. Build also adds unlimited popups and sticky bars, custom scripts/pixels and AI copywriting. The right question is not whether Build has more features; it is whether a real paid-traffic campaign will outgrow Starter almost immediately.

Starter is a low-volume launch tier

Starter includes the drag-and-drop builder, lead-generation forms, free hosting, one user, one root domain, unlimited conversions and unlimited subdomains, but it stops at five landing pages and 500 monthly unique visitors. That can be enough to learn the editor, launch a small campaign, or run a low-traffic lead magnet. It is much harder to justify for a business sending meaningful paid traffic, because 500 visitors can be consumed quickly even when conversion volume is modest.

Build changes the page and traffic ceiling

Build keeps one user and one root domain, but raises the visitor allowance to 20,000 and removes the landing-page cap. It also adds unlimited popups and sticky bars, custom scripts and pixels, and AI copywriting. For a solo marketer managing many campaign pages, those changes can be more important than the headline price. A useful planning ratio is that Starter's $22 annual-billing price divided by 500 included visitors is about 4.4 cents per included monthly visitor, while Build's $74 divided by 20,000 is about 0.37 cents. That is not usage-based billing; it simply shows how sharply the included traffic capacity expands.

Build still does not include A/B testing

A common reason to buy Unbounce is experimentation, but current plan comparisons place unlimited A/B testing on Experiment, not Starter or Build. Experiment is $112 per month on annual billing or $149 month-to-month, includes 30,000 monthly visitors, three users and two root domains. That means a buyer whose main requirement is split testing should not upgrade from Starter to Build and assume testing is included. Build is primarily a publishing-and-traffic-capacity upgrade; the testing tier is another step.

When Build is worth the $624 yearly premium

Build is easier to justify when you need more than five live campaign pages, expect more than 500 unique visitors in a month, need popups/sticky bars, or require custom scripts and pixels for campaign measurement. If none of those constraints are real, paying $624 more each year can simply buy unused capacity. If the only missing capability is A/B testing, Build is also the wrong destination; compare Experiment instead.

The affiliate program is unusually strong, but approval stays separate

Unbounce's current Partner Program is open to anyone who wants to join and is run through PartnerStack. The current program page says partners earn 25–35% of recurring referral revenue for up to 12 months, referrals receive the standard 14-day free trial, cookies last 90 days, and rewards can be paid through PayPal or Stripe. Toolnavia has not applied or been approved, so affiliate tracking and paid referral CTAs remain disabled.

Before paying, estimate next month's real unique visitors and count how many campaign pages you need live at the same time. If both stay within 500 visitors and five pages, Starter is the lower-risk choice. If traffic or page count is already above those limits, Build's larger capacity has a concrete operational reason. If experimentation is the goal, skip the assumption and compare Experiment directly.
