Tutor LMS Business Annual vs One-Time: Does $999 Break Even in Year 3?
The short answer
Tutor LMS Business currently gives the same 10-site Pro feature set in two payment models: $399 per year or $999 one-time. The one-time option advertises lifetime updates, while the annual option includes updates for one year. The clean question is how long you realistically expect to keep the Business license.
At a glance
- Best for
- A buyer expecting to keep Tutor LMS Business for roughly three years or longer and who values lifetime updates enough to prepay $999.
- Price model
- Business $399/year or $999 one-time
- Check first
- Break-even assumes unchanged annual pricing; one-time does not increase the 10-site Business limit.
The break-even is about 2.5 years
At the current annual price, $999 ÷ $399 is about 2.50 years. Two annual payments total $798, which is still $201 cheaper than one-time. Three annual payments total $1,197, which is $198 more than the one-time price.
So the one-time purchase does not win in year one or year two. It becomes cheaper than repeated annual purchases during year three, assuming the annual price and product terms stay unchanged.
Annual is the lower-commitment option
A new agency may not know whether Tutor LMS will remain its preferred WordPress LMS for three years. Paying $399 for year one preserves $600 of cash versus the one-time option and leaves more room to change tools, reduce site count or exit the business line.
This matters because the value of a perpetual-style payment depends on future use. If the plugin is abandoned after 12 or 18 months, the one-time premium never has time to pay back.
One-time is the long-use option
The $999 one-time Business offer covers the same up-to-10-site limit and same Pro feature set, but currently advertises lifetime updates. A freelancer or agency that has already standardized on Tutor LMS and expects several years of continuous use can therefore remove recurring license payments after the break-even point.
One-time does not increase the Business site limit. If you need more than ten sites, the Agency tier is a different decision.
Do not ignore future-price uncertainty
The 2.5-year calculation assumes the annual price remains $399. If annual renewal rises, one-time could break even sooner; if discounts or pricing fall, it could take longer. This article does not predict future prices.
The current pricing page also says prices exclude VAT/taxes and advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee. Final checkout and Tutor LMS terms should control the exact order.
Compare other LMS payment models
LearnDash now uses site-count packages, LifterLMS offers annual bundles plus a lifetime Infinity option, and LearnWorlds uses hosted recurring plans. Different licensing models shift risk between upfront payment, recurring fees and hosting responsibility.
Tutor LMS has a public affiliate program, but Toolnavia approval and tracking are unverified.
Buying rule
Choose $399 annual when the Business tier is still being validated or expected use may end before year three. Choose $999 one-time when the 10-site Business workflow is already proven and you realistically expect to keep using it into year three and beyond.
