Verdict

Text Growth is not automatically the better value just because it includes 200 AI resolutions instead of Essential's 10. On current annual billing, Essential is **$19 per user per month** and Growth is **$79**, so the upgrade costs **$60 more per seat each month**. Both plans currently price an extra 50-resolution pack at **$49.50**.

For one seat, Growth becomes cheaper on base plan plus refill math as soon as Essential needs two 50-packs: Essential would be $118 for the month versus Growth at $79. For two seats the crossover arrives at three packs; for three seats it arrives at four packs. At four or more seats, Growth's extra seat cost can exceed the refill savings across the first 200 resolutions. That makes this a seat-count and usage-shape decision, not a simple “200 is bigger than 10” decision.

The cost model: seats plus shared AI capacity

Annual-equivalent base cost is $19 × seats for Essential and $79 × seats for Growth. Essential includes 10 AI resolutions monthly; Growth includes 200. Each 50-resolution pack adds $49.50 on either plan. A practical planning formula is:

**Essential monthly layer = $19 × seats + $49.50 × required 50-packs above 10.**

**Growth monthly layer = $79 × seats + $49.50 × required 50-packs above 200.**

The public pages appear to present AI allowances at the subscription or workspace level while seat price scales per user. Because the exact account-level scope is not stated consistently enough for every legacy or migrated account, confirm in Billing whether your allowance is workspace-wide before relying on this model.

At 60 resolutions, one Essential seat plus one pack is $68.50, still $10.50 below Growth. At 61 resolutions, a second pack is needed, taking Essential to $118; Growth remains $79. Unused extra resolutions do not roll over, so a short spike can make a pack look less efficient than a stable monthly workload.

One-, two- and three-seat crossover

For **one seat**, Growth's $60 premium is beaten by the second Essential pack. Essential covers up to 60 monthly resolutions for $68.50; once usage reaches 61–110, two packs make it $118, so Growth is $39 cheaper before tax or other add-ons.

For **two seats**, Growth costs $158. Essential starts at $38. Two packs bring it to $137 and cover up to 110 resolutions; a third pack raises it to $186.50. Growth therefore becomes cheaper when Essential needs the third pack, beginning at roughly 111 resolutions.

For **three seats**, Growth costs $237. Essential starts at $57. Three packs total $205.50 and cover up to 160 resolutions; a fourth pack raises the month to $255. Growth becomes cheaper by $18 once the fourth pack is required.

For **four seats**, Growth's base is $316 while Essential's base is $76. Four packs take Essential to $274 and cover up to 210 resolutions. The higher seat premium means Growth is not justified by the first 200 included resolutions alone. Higher-tier features may still justify it, but the refill arithmetic by itself does not.

These are deterministic planning examples using current list prices. They are not invoice predictions and do not include tax, marketplace apps, API packages, currency localization or a different allowance scope.

What Growth adds beyond resolutions

Growth is also a capacity and management tier.

It currently lists 10 AI Agents instead of one, 200 included AI resolutions instead of 10, 50 reply suggestions instead of five, 100 AI text edits instead of five, 400 tracked live visitors instead of 50, 20,000 API calls instead of 10,000, and 30 proactive campaigns instead of three. It also lists unlimited chat history and team reports, while Essential lists 60-day history. A current sister-product pricing table independently repeats the 10-versus-200 allowance and $49.50 pack.

Those differences matter when separate products, regions or support jobs need distinct AI Agents; when managers need team reporting; or when the 60-day history ceiling is operationally unacceptable. They do not prove faster replies, better answer quality or higher customer satisfaction. Published allowances are plan limits, not performance benchmarks.

An extra 100,000 API calls is currently $29.50, and marketplace apps or tax may add cost. If API volume, visitors, campaigns or history—not AI resolutions—is the real constraint, compare those requirements directly instead of forcing the decision through refill math alone.

Text Essential versus Growth limits and refill conflict

The official refill conflict changes the risk

Text's pricing page says a 50-resolution refill is automatically added after the included limit so the AI Agent keeps working. The current Subscription help page says that once the limit is reached, the AI Agent stops handling new chats until additional capacity is added.

Those statements describe materially different operational outcomes: an automatic charge with uninterrupted service versus a service pause awaiting purchase.

The conflict is not resolved by the public documentation available for this review. Before launch, open Billing, check whether automatic refill is enabled, record who can authorize packs, and set a monitoring threshold. Buyers who need a hard budget cap should not assume the stop behavior; buyers who need uninterrupted AI service should not assume the automatic behavior.

The pricing FAQ also broadly says ordinary helpdesk costs do not rise per ticket, while the detailed AI section explicitly charges after the included AI-resolution allowance. Treat unlimited tickets and metered AI resolutions as separate layers.

Contract and usage boundaries

Text offers a 14-day trial without a credit card. Use it with representative conversations and record which chats count as resolutions. A resolution counts when the AI Agent directly solves at least one customer question; tests, spam, irrelevant or incomplete answers, and transfers without an answer do not count. One conversation creates at most one resolution charge even if several questions are solved.

Extra packs apply to the current billing cycle and unused units do not carry forward. The base allowance resets next cycle. Subscription help also says packages scheduled for the next cycle remain unless changed, and reductions are treated as a downgrade that takes effect at renewal.

Annual plans are prepaid and automatically renew. Current terms say unused time is not refunded or credited, so seat count, package schedule and renewal date should be reviewed before prepayment. Legacy LiveChat accounts or migrated subscriptions may have different commercial details and should be checked in-account.

Market context and next step

Freshdesk, Zendesk, Intercom, Help Scout and Zoho Desk all use different combinations of seats, channels and AI usage.

Zendesk Support Team starts at $19 per agent annually but broader Suite Team scope starts higher; Intercom Essential starts at $29 per seat annually and adds usage-based Fin pricing; Help Scout Standard is $25 per user annually; Zoho Desk Standard is shown at $14 per agent annually. These are scope references, not a ranking of support quality or AI performance.

Choose Essential when the team is small, monthly AI resolutions are low or spiky, and one Agent plus 60-day history is acceptable. Choose Growth when one to three seats repeatedly cross the pack threshold, or when multiple AI Agents, unlimited history, team reports, visitor capacity or campaigns solve a real requirement. For four or more seats, calculate the seat premium separately before treating Growth's included AI allowance as a saving.
