Verdict
Frase Professional is mainly a capacity and team upgrade over Starter. The current monthly prices are $129 for Professional and $49 for Starter; on yearly billing, the displayed equivalents are $103/month and $39/month. That creates a $64/month-equivalent annual gap, or a nominal $768 across 12 months of the displayed yearly rates. Professional earns that premium with more seats, sites, articles, audit pages, AI generations, history, and workflow features.
Starter is a real working plan, not a demo tier
Starter currently includes one seat, one site, 10 articles per month, 50 audit pages per month, 25 AI generations, AI Visibility, SEO/GEO scoring, the Frase Agent, publishing integrations, Content Guard for 10 pages, and 5,000 monthly API/MCP/CLI requests.
For a solo operator running one site, those limits can cover a real production workflow. Starter also has an important cost-control behavior: when you hit its monthly limits, the plan simply stops at the cap until the cycle resets or you upgrade. There is no automatic pay-as-you-go overage on Starter.
What Professional changes
**Three seats and five sites.** Professional raises the included team from one seat to three and the site limit from one to five. Extra Professional seats currently cost $29/month each.
**More monthly production capacity.** Professional raises article volume from 10 to 40, audit pages from 50 to 250, and AI generations from 25 to 100. It also expands Content Guard from 10 watched pages to 75.
**More workflow depth.** Professional adds a content calendar, internal-linking suggestions, omni-channel atomization, AI crawler monitoring, and broader AI Visibility that includes Perplexity in addition to the lower-tier coverage.
**More history and API room.** Current comparison rows show three months of historical data and 20,000 monthly API/MCP/CLI requests for Professional, versus current-only history and 5,000 requests on Starter.
Annual billing saves money, but Professional is still a much larger commitment
Starter is currently $49/month monthly or $39/month equivalent when billed yearly. Professional is $129/month monthly or $103/month equivalent yearly. The monthly gap is therefore $80; over 12 unchanged monthly payments that is $960.
Using the annual equivalents, Starter is a nominal $468/year and Professional $1,236/year, a $768 difference. Frase says yearly billing saves 20%.
Professional also offers optional pay-as-you-go when a month runs long, but it is off by default. Current overage rates are $5 per extra article, $0.50 per extra audit page, and $0.25 per extra AI prompt. This is useful because one temporary spike does not automatically require a full Scale upgrade, while keeping surprise overages disabled unless you intentionally turn them on.
The free trial is generous, but the formal renewal terms matter
Frase currently offers a seven-day free trial with no credit card. The trial exposes Professional's feature set but caps usage at five articles, 50 audit pages, 25 AI prompts, and up to three seats.
That is enough to test the core workflow: research a topic, draft and score content, inspect AI Visibility, publish to a supported CMS, and see how the agent behaves. Use noncritical content until you decide whether the automation and publishing controls fit your process.
There is an important wording tension around cancellation. Current Frase marketing/features pages say “Cancel anytime,” while the Terms of Service, updated April 26, 2026, say subscriptions automatically renew unless notice of non-renewal is given at least 30 days before the end of the term. The same Terms say fees paid are final and Frase does not provide refunds.
For purchase planning, treat the formal Terms and the renewal date in your account/order as the controlling boundary. Do not wait until the last day of an annual term based only on a marketing phrase, and do not assume cancellation creates a refund.
How Professional compares with nearby tools
Surfer Standard currently shows $99/month equivalent on annual billing and focuses on 360 content documents, 25 weekly AI prompts, collaboration, and content optimization. Writesonic Starter is $99 monthly or $79/month equivalent annually with 50 prompts, 15 AI articles, 10 site audits, one user, and one project.
SE Ranking Core is $129/month or $103.20/month equivalent annually and focuses more on classic SEO/GEO projects, tracked keywords, audits, and research. Semrush SEO Toolkit Pro is $139.95/month with five monitored websites, 500 tracked keywords, and 100,000 crawl pages per month. These are pricing-and-scope references, not content-quality, ranking, citation, or ROI rankings.
Next step
Use the seven-day no-card trial and model the real workload: number of sites, people, articles, audit pages, AI actions, and API requests. Stay on Starter if one site and 10 articles are enough. Move to Professional when three seats, five sites, 40 articles, 250 audit pages, and its workflow/history features replace recurring manual work or separate tools.
