WPX Refund Policy: What 30 Days Covers—and What It Doesn't
The short answer
**Quick answer:** WPX's published refund policy gives a **30-day money-back window on the initial purchase of a hosting plan**, provided the payment is over **$5 before VAT** and the customer submits the formal cancellation request in the Client Area. Hosting renewals are not refundable, and domains plus several add-on services sit outside the normal hosting refund. Treat the guarantee as a short validation window—not a promise that every charge or unused month can be recovered.

What the 30-day guarantee actually covers
The policy applies to the **first purchase of a WPX hosting plan**. A customer must cancel through the account workflow within 30 days; simply stopping use, removing a site or asking a bank to block a charge is not the documented cancellation process. The qualifying payment must exceed $5 excluding VAT.
That creates a practical test plan: migrate one real site, verify DNS and email dependencies, test restores, observe support during one incident, and decide before day 30. Keep the order date and refund deadline in a calendar. If fit is uncertain, avoid treating a long prepaid term as automatically recoverable after the window.
Initial payment and renewal are different events
The initial purchase can qualify for the 30-day guarantee. A **hosting renewal cannot**. WPX also states that an annual hosting purchase is refundable only during its initial 30 days, while on monthly billing only the first monthly payment can qualify within that period.
This distinction matters more than the word “monthly.” Month-to-month billing does not create a fresh 30-day refund window each month. Likewise, prepaying for a long term does not promise a prorated refund for unused time after the initial window. Before buying, compare the cash commitment with the earliest date at which you can make a reliable keep-or-leave decision.
Charges that need separate treatment
WPX lists domain registration, renewal and transfer charges as non-refundable. If a domain transfer has not been completed, support can review the case, but that is not a blanket domain refund promise.
The policy also gives special rules to paid migration and optimization services. Express migration is refundable only when the WPX migration team cannot complete it; a paid migration ordered with an incorrect domain is not refundable. Optimization is refundable only when the team cannot complete the work. Promotions may carry their own terms, so a campaign landing page or checkout notice can narrow the general policy.
The decision rule is simple: classify every checkout line as hosting, domain, migration, optimization or promotion before paying. Do not assume the hosting guarantee extends to the full basket.
How to cancel without leaving the request informal
WPX's cancellation guide directs customers to open the Control Panel, choose **Plan Details**, use the three-dot menu and select **Request Cancellation**. Complete the form and retain the confirmation.
Before submitting it:
1. Export site files and databases. 2. Save DNS, mailbox and redirect settings that must survive the move. 3. Download invoices and support records. 4. Confirm the requested cancellation date. 5. Ask support how any domain or paid service on the account will be handled.
Do not delete the only working copy before the replacement host has passed a restore test. A formal request is the key event for both service closure and refund eligibility.
Stop the second billing rail too
WPX warns that a stored card or a PayPal recurring payment can continue the billing relationship unless it is removed or cancelled. After the plan request, check the payment method. Cancel the related PayPal subscription manually when applicable; for a stored card, remove it in the account or contact WPX if the interface does not allow removal.
This is not a substitute for cancelling the plan. It is a second control: first request cancellation with WPX, then remove the recurring payment authority, and finally watch for the closure confirmation and final invoice.
The backup-language conflict: export your own copy
The refund page warns customers to back up or transfer data before cancellation because data from a closed account cannot be retrieved. The separate cancellation guide says WPX may retain backups for up to 90 days and may be able to restore an account if the customer returns.
Those statements describe different risk boundaries. A retained backup is not the same as a customer-controlled, guaranteed recovery copy. The safe interpretation is to assume closure can make production data unavailable immediately and to treat any later restoration as discretionary assistance, not an exit strategy.
Downgrade is not a prorated cancellation
If the objective is to reduce spend rather than leave WPX, the downgrade policy is different. WPX says downgrades are processed at the end of the billing cycle and do not generate a prorated refund. Monthly customers should request the downgrade at least seven days before renewal; annual customers should allow 30 days.
Billing-cycle changes also take effect at the period boundary and are non-refundable. That means an annual-to-monthly change does not unwind the current annual commitment. Choose downgrade when the service still fits but capacity does not; choose cancellation when the platform itself no longer fits.
Promotions and renewal-price claims require caution
A historical WPX Black Friday page shows why campaign terms must be read separately: promotions can define their own eligibility, timing and refund treatment. It is historical evidence only, not a current offer.
Independent reviews disagree about whether renewal pricing rises, remains the same or is not publicly specified. This guide therefore makes no renewal-rate promise. The decisive facts here are narrower: renewals are not refundable, checkout terms control the charge, and the customer should verify the live order summary and next billing date.
A five-minute decision checklist
Use the guarantee only if all six answers are clear:
- Is this the initial hosting purchase and more than $5 before VAT? - Can the site, support and restore workflow be tested before day 30? - Which basket items are non-refundable? - Is the cancellation request recorded inside the Client Area? - Has every recurring payment authority been removed? - Is a verified independent backup already off the WPX account?
For a new one-site buyer, the approved WPX Starter route is the lowest-commitment exact offer we can map commercially. The same refund boundary applies across WPX hosting plans and the exact Starter entry route is verified against its official plan page.
