Verdict
Namecheap Quasar looks like a **$12.88/month VPS**, but a realistically managed cPanel configuration costs much more. The current first-year total for Quasar + Complete Management + cPanel Solo is **$669.12**, and a five-year current-price planning model is about **$3,489.60**.
The current Quasar page has a price conflict
Namecheap's primary selectable Quasar grid currently shows **$12.88/month billed yearly**, **$154.56 due for year one** and **$190.56/year renewal**. It also lists 4 CPU cores, 6GB RAM, 120GB SSD and 3000GB bandwidth. The 2026 renewal notice independently lists the same $190.56 yearly renewal.
On the same VPS page, a lower comparison table still shows Quasar at **$15.88/month**.
This article gives the primary pricing grid priority because it contains the active billing selector, due-today total and renewal amount. Final checkout remains controlling. Do not build a budget from a single monthly headline copied from a comparison table.
Full managed Solo stack: $669.12 first year
Complete Management is **$25/month** and requires cPanel. cPanel Solo is **$17.88/month** for one account.
Using the current annual Quasar purchase:
- Quasar first year: **$154.56** - Complete Management: **$300/year** - cPanel Solo: **$214.56/year**
That makes the first-year managed Solo stack **$669.12** before tax and optional extras.
At the current Quasar annual renewal of $190.56, the same stack plans to **$705.12 per renewal year** if management and cPanel prices stay unchanged. Four renewal years plus year one produce a current five-year planning model of **$3,489.60**.
That is planning, not a guaranteed five-year quote. VPS, management and cPanel prices can change independently.
cPanel account count changes the real cost
Solo allows **1 cPanel account**. Tier 1 allows **5 accounts** at $20.88/month; Tier 2 allows 30 accounts at $29.88/month.
With Tier 1, the current model becomes:
- Year one: $154.56 + $300 + $250.56 = **$705.12** - Renewal-year model: $190.56 + $300 + $250.56 = **$741.12** - Five-year planning: **$3,669.60**
Do not confuse multiple websites in one cPanel account with multiple separate cPanel accounts. Agencies should decide account structure before comparing totals.
Separately purchased cPanel licenses are non-refundable, and adding cPanel later can involve reinstalling the server.
Complete Management trades root for provider operations
Quasar as a VPS is marketed with root access, but **Complete Management removes customer root, reboot and SolusVM privileges** and gives reseller-level WHM/cPanel access instead.
That trade can be worthwhile when the buyer wants Namecheap to operate the supported cPanel/AlmaLinux stack. Complete includes core software changes, incident root-cause work, server-failure restoration and cPGuard.
It is the wrong configuration for developers who need arbitrary system packages, custom daemons or direct root control. User-Responsible or Basic preserves more control, but with a different support and backup scope.
The central decision is **managed convenience versus infrastructure control**.
The 120GB server has only 100GB of Complete backup allocation
Quasar includes **120GB SSD**, but Complete Management gives Quasar **100GB of offsite backup allocation**. Namecheap guarantees one weekly copy only when account data fits the allocation.
So a 120GB server disk does not imply a 120GB protected server image.
Track actual protected data, not only disk usage. If accounts outgrow the allocation, reduce data or buy more storage. Weekly provider backup also does not replace a daily application recovery plan for stores, forums or frequently changing databases.
Who should buy it—and what to verify at checkout
Quasar + Complete makes sense when 4 CPU / 6GB RAM / 120GB SSD / 3TB bandwidth fit the workload; the buyer wants a managed AlmaLinux/cPanel stack; reseller-level WHM/cPanel is enough; and 100GB weekly backup allocation is sufficient or supplemented independently.
It is weaker for root-dependent software, custom server stacks, daily-recovery requirements or many separate cPanel accounts that have not been budgeted correctly.
Before paying, verify the live Quasar checkout rather than the conflicting $15.88 comparison-table figure. Confirm annual due today, renewal, Complete Management, cPanel tier, reseller-only access, 100GB backup allocation and extra software/storage.
Save the order summary and renewal terms. Keep an independent backup before any cPanel reinstall or migration.
**Bottom line:** Quasar is not really a $12.88 managed cPanel server. The current Complete + Solo stack is about **$669 in year one** and **$3,490 over five years** at today's renewal/add-on prices. Buy it when delegated operations are worth that total and reseller-level access is enough.
