Cloudways Micro vs Bluehost Business: $396 or $251.64 for 3 Years?

The short answer

Cloudways Flexible Micro and Bluehost Business can both host multiple WordPress sites, but they sell different commitments. Cloudways currently shows **US$11/month** (US$0.0357/hour) for 2GB RAM, 1 vCPU, 50GB storage and 2TB transfer. Bluehost Business shows **US$6.99/month for 36 months**, or **US$251.64 upfront**, for 50 websites and 50GB NVMe.

Quick verdict

Choose **Bluehost Business** when the lowest first-term cash cost, guided WordPress onboarding and a 50-site allowance matter more than commitment length. Choose **Cloudways Micro** when explicit compute, monthly/hourly billing and deletion-based exit justify a higher first-term base cost.

This is not a speed ranking. Cloudways provides a managed cloud server; Bluehost Business is shared hosting. “2GB RAM” and “ideal for 200K visits” are different kinds of boundaries, and no controlled plan-matched benchmark was run.

First invoice and renewal

A Cloudways server kept for 36 months costs **US$396** before backup storage, email and other add-ons. Bluehost's first term is US$144.36 lower. But Bluehost renews at **US$13.99/month** on the displayed 36-month term, or **US$503.64**. Six years therefore total **US$792** for Cloudways base hosting and **US$755.28** for Bluehost Business—a gap of only US$36.72 before Cloudways extras.

Bluehost's US$6.99 headline requires a 36-month term. The displayed renewal is US$13.99/month for another 36 months. That means a buyer pays US$251.64 now and faces a US$503.64 renewal invoice if the same term and current rate still apply.

Cloudways is postpaid and meters partial months hourly, with the full-month Micro price currently capped at US$11. The flexibility has an operational condition: stopping a server does not stop billing. Export the data, delete the server and disable paid add-ons to end future charges.

The six-year base totals nearly converge, but Cloudways does not become cheaper within six years. Its value is smaller commitment and explicit resources, not a hidden long-term discount.

Fifty websites versus one 2GB server

Bluehost Business lists 50 websites, 50GB NVMe and an “ideal for 200K visits/month” reference. It also lists staging, a migration tool, caching, SSH/WP-CLI, malware removal, WAF, DDoS protection and phone/chat support.

Cloudways says unlimited applications and visits, but all applications on Micro share 2GB RAM, 1 vCPU, 50GB storage and 2TB transfer. “Unlimited” removes an app-count fee; it does not remove the server ceiling.

Before buying, inventory peak PHP workers, database size, media growth, cron jobs and plugin load. Fifty brochure sites and fifty busy stores are not equivalent portfolios.

Email changes the comparison

Cloudways does not bundle ordinary inbox hosting. Its Rackspace add-on is US$1.50/month per 25GB mailbox; five mailboxes add **US$270 over three years**.

Bluehost Business advertises a Pro Email free trial, not a permanent mailbox inclusion. Treat continuing email as a separate checkout item unless your existing Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 setup already covers it.

The practical lesson is not that either host includes “free business email.” Price the exact mailbox count on both sides.

Backup responsibility

Cloudways Flexible requires off-site backups at US$0.033/GB, rounded in US$0.50 increments. The US$11 server price is therefore not an all-in invoice.

Bluehost Business lists weekly backups. Its help page says the basic weekly system exposes one current restore point and the newest point overwrites the previous one. A weekly checkbox is not the same as a long retention policy.

For either host, keep an independent copy and test a restore before the site becomes revenue-critical.

Support, refund and exit

Bluehost Business includes chat and phone support and advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee for eligible shared-hosting fees. Domains, add-ons, monthly terms and other services have exclusions, so the guarantee is not a blanket reversal of every checkout charge.

Cloudways emphasizes infrastructure control and metered duration. That is attractive for temporary projects, but the buyer must manage deletion, backups and email choices deliberately.

Source conflict disclosure

One independent comparison reports a generic Bluehost starting price of US$1.67. That is not the current exact Business-plan figure. The official Business row shows US$6.99 for 36 months and US$13.99 renewal, so this article uses official exact-plan numbers and keeps third-party pages only as intent/context evidence.

Checkout checklist

For **Cloudways**, verify the provider/region, US$11 Micro line, hourly rate, backup estimate, mailbox count, add-ons and deletion steps. [Check Cloudways](/go/cloudways-managed-hosting-flexible-official-usd).

For **Bluehost**, verify the US$251.64 prepayment, displayed US$503.64 renewal invoice, 50-site/50GB limits, email-trial wording, weekly backup behavior, taxes and refund exclusions. [Check Bluehost Business](/go/bluehost-shared-hosting-business-official-usd).

**Bottom line:** Bluehost Business wins the first-term cash decision. Cloudways Micro is the more flexible infrastructure purchase, and its six-year base cost ends only US$36.72 higher before add-ons.
