ChemiCloud Starter Developer Access: SSH 1988, Node.js, Python and Git
The short answer
ChemiCloud Starter is unusually capable for a one-site shared-hosting plan: the current feature table lists **SSH/SFTP, Node.js, Python, Git, Remote MySQL and custom Cron Jobs** alongside PHP and MariaDB. Starter currently shows $1.95/month with 1 CPU core, 2GB RAM and 20GB NVMe.
The important boundary is that these are developer features inside a shared cPanel account. They can support deployment, scripts and lightweight applications, but they still share the Starter resource envelope and provider-managed server configuration.
At a glance
- Best for
- One-site developers who want SSH, Git and lightweight app runtimes within a shared 1CPU/2GB plan.
- Price model
- Current display $1.95/mo against $11.95 reference; live checkout controls.
- Check first
- Developer tools remain subject to the exact runtime versions and finite shared resources.
SSH uses ChemiCloud's custom port 1988
ChemiCloud's SSH guide recommends SSH-key authentication and says its accounts use port **1988**, not the default 22. The public key must be authorized in cPanel before the key can log in.
That one detail affects terminal sessions, IDE connections, SFTP clients and remote automation. Store the port as a deployment variable instead of assuming standard SSH defaults.
Key-based access is safer than sharing cPanel credentials
ChemiCloud explicitly recommends thinking about the level of access a web developer really needs. Its developer-access guide says a contractor does not need your ChemiCloud client/billing login and describes narrower choices such as collaborator permissions, FTP or remote database access.
Use the smallest access scope that fits the job. If full cPanel is necessary, plan to rotate or remove credentials when the engagement ends.
Node.js and Python support are real—but version fit still matters
The shared-hosting feature table includes Node.js and Python, and ChemiCloud also publishes dedicated Python-hosting documentation with multiple Python versions plus SSH/SFTP, Git and cron tooling.
A framework still needs the exact runtime and modules your application expects. cPanel's Application Manager documentation also makes clear that application hosting depends on provider-enabled runtime features and a process manager.
Before migration, verify the exact Node/Python version, startup method, environment variables, build requirements and whether the application expects a permanently running custom service.
Git works best with a dedicated deployment credential
ChemiCloud lists preinstalled Git, while cPanel provides Git Version Control when the provider enables it. For a private GitHub repository, a repository-scoped deploy key can be safer than leaving a developer's personal credential on the server.
Record where each key is used and remove obsolete deploy keys after a project or contractor ends.
Cron and Remote MySQL are useful, not unlimited compute
Starter includes custom Cron Jobs and Remote MySQL access. That makes scheduled imports, WordPress maintenance and controlled external database administration possible.
But cron only starts work on a schedule; it does not create extra CPU or RAM. Starter has 1 CPU core and 2GB memory, so large imports, image processing, builds and long scripts all compete with the live website.
WordPress automation can reuse SSH port 1988
WP-CLI supports remote SSH with a custom port. That means the ChemiCloud 1988 connection can fit remote WordPress maintenance when WP-CLI is available in the account.
Test the command path and permissions before building production automation. A feature can be present while a particular script is still too heavy for shared resources.
Buying decision
Choose ChemiCloud Starter when you want a low-cost one-site cPanel environment with real developer tools and your workload fits 1 CPU/2GB shared resources. It is especially useful for Git/WP-CLI workflows, lightweight Node/Python applications and scheduled tasks.
Move to a higher plan or VPS when the application needs substantially more compute, long-running custom services or server-level configuration that shared hosting does not expose.
