What it does
OBS combines video and audio sources into scenes for recording and live streaming. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. Its official feature list includes scene transitions and per-source audio filters.
Before you choose
Start with your actual workflow: a screen tutorial, webcam presentation or multi-source stream. Record a short sample with your microphone, then check text readability and audio before a full session. This is a suggested evaluation workflow, not a Toolnavia benchmark.
Free plan and upgrade decisions
OBS itself is free and open source. Optional third-party plugins, assets and streaming services have their own terms. Paying for a separate service is not a requirement to use the core recording application.
