Smart Defrag PRO: $19.99 for 3 PCs—Do You Need More Than Windows Optimize Drives?
The short answer
At a glance
- Best for
- HDD-heavy or mixed-drive Windows users who need boot-time, deep, large-file or targeted optimization across several PCs.
- Price model
- Explicit current USD3-PC offer $19.99/year; separate1PC+2PC-free promo $17.99/year; exact renewal not public
- Check first

Verdict
Smart Defrag 12 PRO is not something every Windows PC needs. Windows already runs Optimize Drives automatically, using traditional defragmentation for hard disk drives and TRIM/ReTrim-style optimization for supported SSDs. IObit's current explicit 3-PC PRO plan is $19.99/year. Pay for PRO only when its deeper HDD-focused automation, boot-time work, large-file/game targeting, or multi-PC workflow solves a problem that Windows and Smart Defrag Free do not.
This is a documentation-based buying guide, not a Toolnavia disk-speed, SSD-longevity, boot-time, or game-loading benchmark.
Windows already provides a $0 optimization baseline
Microsoft says Windows 10 and 11 automatically optimize drives once a week by default. For hard disk drives, Windows defragments files. For SSDs, Windows uses TRIM rather than treating them like mechanical disks. The Optimize-Volume documentation is even more explicit: HDDs default to Analyze/Defrag, while SSDs with TRIM support use ReTrim.
That is the first buying gate. If Windows' scheduled optimization already handles the PC and you do not need extra controls, there may be no reason to install another defragmenter.
It is also an important SSD boundary: do not interpret "disk optimization" as a recommendation to apply old-fashioned HDD defragmentation to every SSD. If an SSD is your main target, verify the exact drive-specific method being used before running any manual optimization.
What Free already does—and what PRO adds
Smart Defrag Free already provides basic file/disk defragmentation and optimization. IObit's current product page also lists scheduled defrag and game optimization in Free.
PRO adds the broader workflow: automatic and scheduled optimization, intelligent file and registry optimization, deep defrag, large-file optimization, boot-time defrag, targeted file/disk optimization, advanced disk-acceleration controls, automatic product updates, and premium support.
Ignore the marketing percentages when making the purchase decision. IObit advertises large speed gains, but those numbers are not Toolnavia test results and can vary by drive, fragmentation, workload, and PC.
Four reasons PRO can make sense
**Boot-time optimization.** PRO can work on selected system files before Windows fully starts, when some files would otherwise be locked. That is a distinct control beyond ordinary background optimization. Test it on a noncritical PC before depending on it.
**Deep, large-file, and targeted HDD defrag.** PRO adds deeper optimization and lets users focus on large files or selected files/disks. This can matter on large mechanical drives with workloads that genuinely fragment over time. It is not a reason to apply HDD-style defrag blindly to SSDs.
**Automatic multi-PC maintenance.** The formal plan covers three PCs, and PRO adds automatic operation plus support. That is more useful in a household with several Windows machines than on a single SSD-only laptop already handled by Windows.
**Game and startup targeting.** IObit includes game-file and startup-oriented optimization. Treat these as workflow options to test on the actual HDD/game library, not as a guarantee that loading time will improve by a fixed percentage.
$19.99 is the clearest explicit three-PC offer—but another promo is live
IObit's current product page explicitly lists a 3-PC annual plan at $19.99, and the current purchase page and Hot Deals page show the same 1-year / 3-PC price. That is the formal offer registered in this article.
However, the same main product page also shows a separate promotion labeled "1 PC + 2 PCs Free" at $17.99/year. An update page currently shows another $14.77/year promotion without clearly exposing the device count in the readable page. These are different promotion paths, so check the live cart instead of assuming $19.99 is always the lowest route.
Do not use the crossed-out $39.99 as a renewal price. IObit's official renewal portal lists Smart Defrag PRO but requires an existing license code before the renewal transaction is revealed. The exact future renewal for a new buyer is not public.
IObit's refund form includes Smart Defrag PRO under the current 60-day refund framework. Turning off future renewal and requesting a refund remain separate actions.
Alternatives show how much the extra controls are worth
Windows Optimize Drives costs $0 and already schedules drive-type-aware optimization. That is the default baseline for most Windows users.
Auslogics Disk Defrag 12 currently lists Disk Defrag Pro at £22.39/year for three PCs on a live promotional page and explicitly positions the product for HDDs, with a separate SSD Optimizer product. Its Free edition covers basic analysis/defrag while Pro adds broader HDD optimization and scheduling.
O&O Defrag 32 Pro currently costs €29.90 as a one-time perpetual one-PC license on its product page and provides drive-specific methods for HDD, SSD, and NVMe, plus automatic and boot-time optimization. Wise Disk Cleaner remains a $0 cleaner/defrag utility for Windows. These are price-and-workflow comparisons, not speed rankings.
Next step
Let Windows Optimize Drives run first, and identify whether each target is an HDD or SSD. If Smart Defrag Free already covers the HDD workload, stay Free. Upgrade only if automatic/deep/boot-time/large-file or targeted optimization across several PCs repeatedly adds value.
Before paying, compare the explicit $19.99 three-PC route with the live $17.99 "1 PC + 2 PCs Free" path and verify your future renewal in the account when available.
