What it does

HandBrake is an open-source video transcoder for Windows, macOS and Linux. Its job is to convert existing video into supported output formats.

A practical selection check

Choose a representative file from your own work. Check the destination device, acceptable file size and required subtitles or audio tracks. Compare the output with the original before processing a large batch.

When another tool fits better

Choose a dedicated editor if the main task is arranging clips, adding titles or building a story. A transcoder is useful after editing, when you need a delivery copy. Smaller files and higher quality must be assessed together.
